Shawn Hendricks Contracting Officer
1. Will Building 17 be included in this bid? Yes
2. Is copper the only piping material that can be utilized for this project for supply water? Is tubing to drain for treated water acceptable or does the treated water after the unit also have to be hard-piped in ¼” copper? Copper
3. At the walk-through, it was stated that the hot water temperatures at the hot water heaters was maintained at 140 degrees F. Is the temperature in the hot water heater currently measured daily or continuously by an automated system? The VA does not currently have automated monitoring of Domestic hot water. There are local temp. thermometers in each mechanical room.
4. It appears that the scope of work and specifications call for one device per system (both hot and cold) that will monitor free and total chlorine, temperature, pH, and flow. At the bid meeting it was stated that the chlorine measurements for the hot water systems were not going to be measured. The VA directive specifically calls for the chlorine in the hot water systems to be measured after the mixing valve since the hot water temperatures cannot exceed 110 degrees F after the mixing valve. The water in the recirculating loops mixes with cold water, so there should be some chlorine in those systems. Will the VA Directive for chlorine to be measured in the hot water systems be followed? In our experience, the hot water temperatures at the hot water heater are typically measured continuously through a building management system, so we are thinking that measuring the hot water temperatures before the mixing valve would be redundant. VA Directive 1061 must be followed. This assumption is incorrect, please follow the bid documents. The monitoring will follow the directive and the SOW.
5. The Aquapath Sensing system communicates via wireless cell signal and sends data to the “cloud”. Access is provided to all required personnel. Are there firewalls or other restrictions that would not allow use of a wireless cell signal for communication? Not to my knowledge. The wireless system will operate outside of the VA data backbone.
6. Does the unit have to be wired directly into a Building Management System or will the wireless communication to the cloud be accepted? Go by the bid documents
7. If there is not enough room to wall mount or strut mount a system inside of a building (Building 17 for example), will a variance be established to allow the unit or units to be placed outside of the mechanical room with access through exterior walls for plumbing and electric? A variance will be permitted if there is not sufficient room in the mechanical room..
8. Please verify that all drain water is required to go to sanitary sewer since the specification calls for DPD testing of chlorine. Confirm… pipe to floor drain.
