About this file

This is a Sources Sought Notice and Request for Information (RFI) issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Integrated Service Network 8 (VISN 8). The VA is conducting market research to identify qualified sources capable of providing a retained surgical item (RSI) detection system, specifically a sponge detection system for twelve VISN 8 medical centers on a firm fixed price basis.

The requirement is for an integrated radiofrequency (RF)-tagged laparotomy sponge detection system that functions as an adjunct to manual sponge counting procedures currently used by surgical staff. The system must provide automated, non-handheld RF scanning capabilities beneath the patient to detect RF-tagged surgical sponges during operative procedures, enhancing patient safety and reducing the risk of retained surgical items. The specified equipment includes a Situate Console, Body Scanner Lite, Room Scanner, and Complete Care Service Plan, with all components manufactured in the U.S.A. or equal alternatives. The response to this RFI will inform the Government's determination of the appropriate acquisition method for this requirement. This is a pre-solicitation notice and does not constitute a formal solicitation for bids or proposals.
