About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document clarifying CT scanner requirements for a radiation oncology acquisition.

The Government requires a commercially available 3-Dimensional CT Scanner capable of performing 2D X-ray scout imaging and 3D CT imaging to support radiation oncology treatment planning workflows. The minimum specification is a 64-slice CT scanner. The system must support 4DCT imaging to manage respiratory motion and quantify target and organs-at-risk motion, with respiratory gating and motion management included as part of the 4DCT requirement. Images must be exported in DICOM-RT format for compatibility with the Eclipse Treatment Planning System. The CT scanner must feature a large bore configuration with a minimum size of 80 centimeters and a flat tabletop compatible with CIVCO immobilization devices. These requirements are defined in PWS Sections 5, 6, and 7, with detailed simulation and treatment-planning capabilities specified in PWS Section 7.a.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

QUESTION:

We would appreciate clarification regarding the “CT Simulation” requirements referenced in the Statement of Work.

Specifically, we would like to confirm whether the Government requires:

• a dedicated radiation oncology CT simulator system, or

• a standard diagnostic 64-slice CT system configured to support radiation oncology treatment planning workflows.

Could you please clarify whether the required system must support the following:

• 4DCT

• Respiratory gating

• DICOM-RT export

• Eclipse Treatment Planning compatibility

• Large bore configuration

• Flat tabletop for immobilization devices

• Any other CT Scanner imaging acceptable?

GOVERNMENT RESPONSE:

The requirements for this acquisition are defined in PWS Sections 5, 6, and 7. The Government requires a CT system to support radiation oncology treatment planning workflows. The CT system provided must fully support Radiation Oncology CT simulation workflows as described in the PWS.

System Type

The PWS specifies a commercially available 3-Dimensional CT Scanner (3D CT Scanner) capable of performing:

• 2D X-ray scout imaging

• 3D CT imaging

• 4DCT imaging

(PWS section 5)

The system must be a minimum 64-slice CT scanner.

(PWS section 7.a)

Required Simulation and Treatment-Planning Capabilities

Based strictly on PWS section 7.a, the system must support:

• 4DCT

The system shall “manage respiratory motion (4DCT) to quantify target and organs-at-risk motion.”

• Respiratory Gating / Motion Management

Included as part of the 4DCT respiratory-motion management requirement.

• DICOM-RT Export

“Images must be DICOM-RT to be transferred to the Eclipse Treatment Planning System.”

• Eclipse Treatment Planning System Compatibility

DICOM-RT–formatted images must be compatible with the Eclipse TPS for treatment planning.

• Large Bore Configuration

“Large Bore Size: 80 cm (minimum).”

• Flat Tabletop for Immobilization Devices

“Flat Tabletop compatible with CIVCO immobilization devices.”
