About this file

This document is a Request for Quote (RFQ) Questions and Answers attachment for a temporary fire pump rental at a VA facility. The RFQ details specific technical requirements for a rental pump to support a failing diesel fire pump, including a flow rate of 2,000 gpm and a required outlet pressure of 90 psi. Key specifications include a 10-inch victaulic suction connection, 12-inch flange discharge connection, a trailer-mounted pump with an integrated jockey pump, and a fuel tank providing 24-hour emergency run time. The VA will require weekly churn tests of the pump per NFPA requirements, and the rental should include diesel for normal testing and one tank of emergency fuel, with the connection point approximately 30 feet from the pump trailer location.

Attachment A (Q&A)

1. What pressure is required from the temporary unit, I see the flow is 2,000gpm; but no pressure is listed. Existing pumps are capable of 90 psi.

2. What pressure feeds the temporary pump? Ground level Water tank pressure, with 20 foot of head pressure.

3. What size connection are at the feed of B103, and the discharge at B103? Suction side is 10 victualic fitting, discharge is 12” flange.

4. Is there a jockey pump in place, or is one required? Required as part of trailer.

5. What is the Boost Transformer for, and the SO cord? The temporary pump will be trailer mounted in an enclosure, and be self-sufficient; not requiring any outside electrical connection. Not accurate. Some trailers require power for the jockey pump.

This power is for the jockey pump in the trailer.

6. Are there any drawings available that show the intended pump setup? Not at this time.

7. What are the connection points for the pump (suction and discharge)? Do not understand the question. Yes there is a connection point for both the suction and discharge side of the rental pump.

8. Are the connections flanged, and if so, what size? Pump discharge connection location is a flange, 12 inch external to the building. Suction side is victualic, 10 inch, internal to the building through a OH door. Suction side pipe to trailer needs to be ground level for door to be closed as much as possible.

9. What is the operating pressure of the system? Outlet needs to be 90 psi. The suction side is ground level water tank with 20 foot of head.

10. Could you provide some insight into what the pump is needed for? Pump is being installed to support failing diesel fire pump.

11. Will the VA require a weekly churn test of the pump? Yes.

12. How far of a distance is the connection spot from where the fire pump trailer will be located? About 30 feet for suction line.

13. Under the "Diesel Supply” section, it indicates that the rental should include diesel for normal testing during the rental period and one tank of fuel for emergency use.

Rental should include the cost of fuel and delivery for amount needed to do weekly churn tests and one tank of fuel for emergency use. Emergency use fuel might not get used, but that is cost VA will assume to not pay for first tank.

Attachment A (Q&A)

14. Is the contractor to supply diesel for the period of performance? Per the above.

Beyond this diesel will be supplied by VA or through sperate contract to vendor.

15. Should the emergency tank be external, or should it be within the trailer itself?

Preferred integral to the trailer. Space is limited.

16. What size fuel tank would be acceptable for emergencies? 24 hour run time.

17. Besides the initial test, are the tests referred to in this section be the weekly churn tests? Please clarify. Per NFPA requirements for a fire pump.

18. Could you please provide any available site pictures indicating where the tie-in will occur? See Attachment B
