Solicitation questions for Replace Dry Pipe Sprinkler System Project # 658-21-101

1. Will the Government allow multiple buildings to be worked on simultaneously to achieve the completion of the project in the 550 days as listed? If not, can the period of performance be extended?

Yes, it can be coordinated with the scheduling of the project.

2. Will the Government be moving all furniture and equipment so the contractor can have a clear and safe working area below and adjacent to the Dry Pipe locations?

Yes, VA will handle moving all furniture and equipment for a clear and safe workspace.

3. Are the vertical riser chases to be from the floor to the underside of the deck above or can they be just above the ceilings?

Refer to architectural specification Section 09 22 16 part 3.2 installing studs.

4. Per the drawings, there is no identification of areas that are open ceilings, and which are acoustical ceilings. In order to provide a fair and accurate price, please identify which locations have acoustical ceilings.

All work shown in the drawings is for attic spaces which do not have ceilings. Areas requiring horizontal piping on floors should be above ceilings and the contractor is to verify conditions prior to commencing with work.

5. 1/F002, Typical Nitrogen Generator Frame Detail, Is this a requirement if the provided Nitrogen Generator has its own provided base?

If the manufacturer includes framing for free-standing units, then this framework is not required.

6. 2/01-F201, The new dry fire riser appears to be in a vertical chase and then runs horizontally prior to entering the attic. Does the horizontal pipe need to be in a chase as well?

Areas requiring horizontal piping on floors should be above ceilings and the contractor is to verify conditions prior to commencing with work.

7. 02-F201, Elevation Details only shows the attic height of 39’-5” from first floor. Are there multiple levels in between and what are the heights between each level?

Height between floors are as follows: basement to first floor 12’, first floor to second-floor height 13’-9”, second floor to 3rd floor 12’-8”

8. 04-FD101, The existing/New 5” Dry Pipe which runs in the corridors, is this above existing Acoustical ceilings or exposed?

Areas requiring horizontal piping on floors should be above ceilings and the contractor is to verify conditions prior to commencing with work.

9. 04-FD101, The 4” Dry Pipe in the Canteen Storage is above an acoustical ceiling or exposed?

Will the area below the dry pipe be cleared access for uninterrupted work?

All piping is to be installed in chases unless in mechanical spaces, storage areas, or gymnasiums. Coordinate all work with owner and/or general contractor. The contractor is to verify conditions prior to commencing work.

10. 1-3/04-FD103, Is the existing horizontal Dry Pipe above acoustical ceilings?

all piping is above an acoustical ceiling. All work shown on FD plans is demolition. The contractor is to verify conditions prior to commencing work.

11. 1-1/04-FD103, Appears to be an existing horizontal pipe between the 1st floor and 2nd floor. Is this an actual and where is this located on the floor plans?

refers to drawing FD101. Section mark 1-1 is near stair 30 and is located in the interior of the building.

12. 1-1/04-FD103, The vertical pipe between the 1st floor and 2nd floors Main Building on the exterior or interior of the building?

All piping shown is to be located on the interior of the building.

13. 1-2 & 5/04-FD103, Is the existing 4” pipe on the exterior of the building between the Second Floor Small Building and Attic Small Building?

Drawings indicate the Interior of building.

14. Building 5 does not call out any chase for the Dry pipe. Please confirm.

All work shown in the drawings is for attic spaces which do not have ceilings. Areas requiring horizontal piping on floors should be above ceilings and the contractor is to verify conditions prior to commencing with work.

15. Building 7, Is the existing/new dry pipe in the mechanical shaft or adjacent closet? If in the mechanical shaft, where is the access to the shaft?

The pipe riser is shown in the closet as indicated on the drawings. The contractor is to verify conditions prior to commencing work.

16. Building 9, 4/09-FD102, Is the Dry Pipe Riser in the wall, a chase, or exposed in a room? Please Clarify The existing dry pipe riser is shown within the existing wall. The contractor is to verify conditions prior to commencing work.

17. Drawing E001 calls out requirements to provide Fire Alarm Shop Drawings, in the “Notes:”

section. Please verify that the VA requires fire alarm shop drawings done for each of these 14 buildings with voltage drop testing, battery load testing, etc., Refer to Division 28 specification sections.

18. Per the note below is it to be assumed that all yellow sealant pipe dope is to be abated?

Please provide linear footage of pipe and quantity of fittings to be abated.

As stated in the bid/construction documents, sample testing by a certified testing agency for asbestos/hazardous materials was done for Buildings 1, 7, 9, 12, 74, 75, and 77. Test results indicated yellow seam sealant (pipe dope) was utilized for the pipe joints (straight and fittings). This sealant is required to be abated. It is the contractor's responsibility to visit the project site prior to submitting his bid, to determine the amount of abatement that is required (the contractor is responsible for counting the quantity of joints in order to avoid change orders resulting from an inaccurate quantity provided by someone other than the contractor).

19. The SF1442 list the period of performance as 550 days, the spec list 400 days. Please verify the period of performance.

Period of performance is 550 calendar days
