006
Specification section 283100 reads: “2.3 FIRE ALARM CONTROL UNIT A. General: 1. Floor 4A renovation shall be provided with a fire alarm control unit and shall operate as a supervised zoned fire alarm system.” However, the drawing indicates to use the existing FACP. Would you like a new FACP or you planning to use the existing FACP as the riser seems to show?
The design intent is to reuse the existing FACP, see FA001 riser.
007
Type A and B Windows – Please confirm these are aluminum window systems (Specification 08 51 13) and not aluminum storefront (Specifications 08 41 13). The details seem to show an aluminum window, but the door looks like a storefront door.
The intent is to have one window manufacture (Section 08 51 13) for all windows. The door shall be integrated into the window type.
008
Please confirm wire glazing is required for doors C4A-10 and C4A-11. We can provide rated wire glazing with safety film as wire glazing by itself is not safety rated.
These are 20 min. fire rated doors. The glazing provided shall meet the requirements of the door rating. Wired or clear may be provided.
009
Please confirm frame type and size for various observation windows such as the town in Chart 4A-161-1.
The borrowed lite at the Chart recess is a fixed aluminum window with 4 1/2" frame.
010
In addition to service elevator, is it acceptable for a construction entrance be established to access the space from the exterior (man/material hoist and trash chute on roof of building)?
An access from the exterior may be established for the delivery or removal of materials that are too large to bring up the service elevator and cannot be broken down to fit on the elevator. The primary route for materials transport is the service elevators. The contractor is responsible for protecting and repair of damage to any exterior surfaces caused by the establishment and use of an exterior roof access route. Any damage resulting from water leaks as result of this exterior access are the responsibility of the contractor.
011
Please confirm work hours, will this project be able to be completed during standard business hours 7:00am – 3:30pm?
Work hours are confirmed, and work can be completed during stated hours.
012
Please confirm expectations for ILSM measures, will 24/7 firewatch be required by the contractor while suppression systems are disabled? Does this apply to outages in unoccupied areas?
A 24/7 fire watch is required when the fire suppression/ detection system is inoperable due to construction work. This applies for unoccupied spaces as well. It is preferred that fire suppressions/detection systems be kept active during construction to avoid the need of a firewatch. System changes requiring an outage, need to be scheduled with VA Safety, so temporary ILSM's can be put in place.
013
Abatement notes indicate that all systems, HVAC Systems, Steam Piping, Etc shall be shut down during abatement activities, does this include systems that service other active spaces within the hospital. If so, when will it be acceptable to shut down those systems?
No. Services to areas outside of the scope of work that pass through the space shall remain in service during abatement. These services shall be "made safe" prior to abatement.
014
Is any existing equipment required to be salvaged or saved?
Other than what was specified for reuse, no other equipment needs to be salvaged or saved.
015
Please clarify patient headwall inclusions, what components should be considered to be in-wall and provided by the construction team? Will med gas and electrical components be terminated in the headwall as part of the VA’s PC Wall Mount System?
Headwall manufacturer to provide headwall and all utility outlets and components as shown on detail 1/AE503. Utility contractors to provide connections to headwall, general contractor to coordinate installation between headwall and utility contractors.
016
In wall detail @ window 2/AE602 what is the intention for the condition at the end of interior partition wall. Should this be “capped” in using break metal or by another method?
The posts at the windows shall have a brake metal enclosure with color to match window mullion.
017
Can installation details be provided for “VC” VA Provided / Contractor Installed? It appears that in most cases these are relocated, are these to be salvaged during demo. If salvaged during demo, does the VA have a location that these can be stored during construction?
Yes, these will be salvaged during demo and reinstalled. The contractor is responsible for the storage of salvaged items being reinstalled. There is no VA storage space available.
018
Flow Test Information on FX001 is left blank, can this be provided?
VA to provide upon contract award. If no test data within the past year, Contractor to perform test.

Or 1 Million Dollars, whichever is less
021
Is the GC to provide coordinated drawings for the project for MEP, BAS, and DIV 27 & 28 trades? If this is correct, please provide current building as builds or are marked up plans acceptable? Will this plan be needed prior to starting work or is this only for close out purposes? If current as builds are not provided, will the schedule duration increase to allow for scanned efforts of the current spaces to allow for accurate coordinated drawings in which these could take months to populate. If as builds are acceptable at the end of the project they will be provided with close out documents.
The contractor may use the contract drawings as a basis for producing coordination drawings as required by the specifications.

026
On MH102/landmarks 8/9 and AA - exhaust fans 4A-EF-1 & 2 are noted in the schedule to be installed with roof curbs. These units are inline units thus not requiring a roof curb. Also, it appears that they are connected to a wall louver but there is no louver schedule. Please advise as to how to proceed.
