The purpose of this amendment is to provide RFI responses, see pages 2-5 for clarification.
Acknowledge all solicitation amendments when submitting bids.
Desiree Mills Contracting Officer Fire Suppression RFI Responses
1. The diesel fire pump room enclosures are to be 2-hr rated. Per NFPA 20, fire pump room with sprinkler protection is only required to be 1 hr rated. Is the reduction in fire rating allowed?
Please provide 2-hr rated enclosure for diesel fire pump room. Provide deduct alternate for providing 1 hr. rated wall.
2. The diesel fire pump is out of service. However, Phase 3 requires testing of both fire pumps. Is the diesel to be repaired by others? How to program the diesel fire pump controller if the pump is out of service?
It is our understanding that the diesel pump is working and is the primary pump for building 1.
3. Any work and testing required to be done after hours?
This will have to be coordinated with VA.
4. Does the fire watch area include the hospital?
This will have to be coordinated with VA. This will depend upon the duration of time needed during switchover to new electric pump.
5. The areas of fire pump installation are not considered healthcare. Does exhaust air flow required?
Refer to F-101, Keynote 5.
6. What risers are required to be pressure tested after the fire pump is installed?
Existing pressure at the top of the risers need to be serviced by the new pump. Ensure new pump maintains required pressure at the top of the riser.
7. Is sprinkler protection required in the new electric fire pump room?
Yes
8. Does the new fire pump controller need to be monitored by the fire alarm system?
Yes (Explanation: The new fire pump room (which includes pump and controller) will be monitored and provided with detection per NFPA 72 section 23.8.5.9).
9. Please confirm there is no fire alarm scope in the new 2hr rated diesel fire pump enclosure.
Fire alarm scope is shown in the new fire pump enclosure on sheet E-101.
10. Is double check backflow acceptable in lieu of pressure reduced backflow?
Provide as specified.
11. Please confirm jockey pump rating of 60GPM.
Confirmed.
12. Underground utility plans available?
Utility plans provided might not be up to date, it is up to the contractor to investigate and mark out for utilities.

Existing structural drawings indicates that column footing at gridline E8 is 4’-0 x 4’-0 x 12” deep. Bottom of footing elevation is (-3’-8) below adjacent slab.
Existing exterior building foundation dimensions are depicted in detail 8/S201.

No, soil testing has not been performed for this project.
b. Is concrete pad to be at sufficient depth for both sufficient bearing and for frost depth?
Yes, concrete pad depicted in detail 6/S201 shall provide adequate bearing and frost protection.
22. Sheet C-501 / Demolition Plan / coded note 17 calls for existing GPRS report, sheet V-101. Sheet is not included within set. Provide sheet V-101 and all pertinent information on findings.
Note 17 does not indicate a report, but that a Level B subsurface utility investigation was performed. Said survey info is provided and reflected on the demo plan, therefore a separate survey sheet (V-101) was not necessary and not provided within the plan set.
23. Sheet C-502 / detail 1 & 4. Provide specification for removable bollard as basis of design.
Specifications for the removable bollard are provided via details 1, 4 & 5 as reflected on C-502. Also, C-501 indicates a Type A bollard shall be installed.
24. Sheet C-502 / detail 5. Can plastic protective cover similar to Post Guard with reflective stripe be utilized in place of painting? Cost would offset painting and repainting.
The detail provided is the standard VA detail. Any deviation from the detail will need to be approved by the VA.
25. Provide existing sprinkler information including pressure and flow rates.
Please specify what sprinkler information are you requesting? Entire building sprinkler information or for the new enclosure?

The tank appeared to have sensor connections.

Contractor should be able to start the concrete encasement outside of the fenced area. This area should be relatively safe from risk that the ducts will be accidently cut by excavation. After confirming with the COR, contractor should be able to just dig by hand and bury new conduit inside the fenced area, turning up the conduit under the existing pad, without actually disturbing the pad itself.
• What is thickness of existing concrete to be removed.
Existing concrete pad is 6” high, 9’ wide by 9’ deep.
e. Provide concrete transformer pad patch / repair details where new buried duct bank occurs.
Apogee has a new xfmr pad detail available; contractor shall let us know if that is acceptable.
