Sheet1
| # | Question | Govt Response |
Will a water filtration device be permitted to be used on the site? | Yes in compliance with regulations
Will we be able to position Dumpsters at the doors that are closest to the site we are working at? | Yes dumpsters will be allow close as possible to work areas along as patients and staff functions are not impaired.
Will we need to paint full areas where the asbestos is removed? | See spec section 09 91 00 para. 3.8.E which states "Except where scheduled for complete painting apply finish coat over plane surface to nearest break in plane, such as Corner, reveal, or frame."
There are areas where carpet is run up the wall approximately 7”. When this is demolished and 4” cove base is installed, 3” of damaged wall will be exposed. Is it acceptable to use 8” cove base in these areas? | No.
The specifications state that the Medical Center will provide monitoring during construction. Does the contractor need to provide additional 3rd party CIH monitoring during construction? | Contractor is not required to hire a 3rd party monitor.
There are areas where wall and ceiling must be removed in order to perform piping abatement. Is it acceptable to perform wall and ceiling patching in these areas or will full ceiling and wall replacement be required? | Wall and ceiling patching will suffice if contractor can match existing surfaces in texture and paint color. Otherwise the contractor will have to replace and paint to nearest break in plane, such as Corner, reveal, or frame.
There are only two drawings, 2A-HA101 and 2A-HA102, that have a printed scale on them. Can you provide the scale, or differing scales, for all other drawings? | Drawing scales vary by building. Contractor shall field verify dimentions to determine individual sheet scale.
On Drawing 1-HA102, B1, Room 116 is listed under Priority 4. However, on Drawing 1-HA102, there does not appear to be any work occurring in Room 116. What work is required in Room 116? | This is a stairwell in bldg. 1 1st flr that vct tile requires abatement.
On the list of Priority 1 Rooms, B75, Room 101 is listed on Drawing 75-HA101. We could not locate this room. Please confirm that this room number is correct. | The bldg. 75 room 101 is the front lobby located on the first floor.
On the ground floor, in the hallways of building 2A, since the hallway is a full circle, can the contractor completely contain a full “wall to wall" section of the hallway? This method will only block off one of the two routes of egress, and I feel as long as we have adequate signage and coordination, it shouldn’t impede too drastically on traffic. Per SVAMC request:
I have estimated, conservatively, that my crew can fully build, abate, clear, and teardown a 300sqft containment within one 10 hour shift. See attached picture: Red area indicates 300sqft containment
| This procedure will be exponentially more cost effective, and create a much safer working environment for the workers and SVAMC personnel/patients alike. Also, to reinforce this preferred method, and shine light on the negativities of a half-hall containment: some areas of the hallway are only 5ft wide - a 2.5 working space not only drastically increases the cost and time of the abatement but also leaves us open to greater risk of damages to the containment during abatement, either by the passing patients or the workers inside. | Yes. Closures must be closely coordinated with medical center to ensure hospital remains operational. As such, sections may vary in size and length depending on access points that must be maintained. | ||
On Drawing 1-HA102, Corridor 118 is marked for asbestos removal and floor replacement. Corridor 118 is not included in priority lists. Which priority is it? | Priority 4 |
On Drawing 2A-HA101, Rooms G032B, G049, G050A and G050B are marked for asbestos removal and floor replacement. These rooms are not included in priority lists. Which priority are they? | These were not on my list for abatement but the other rooms in this area are priority 2 |
On Drawing 7-HA101, Corridor CB-2 is marked for asbestos removal and floor replacement. Corridor CB-2 is not included in priority lists. What priority is this corridor? | Priority 3 |
On Drawing 9-HA101, Rooms 1, 1H, 1I, 1J, 1K, and 1L are marked for asbestos removal and floor replacement. These rooms are not included in priority lists. What priority are these? | Priority 3 |
On Drawing 74-HA101, Room 1 is marked for asbestos removal and floor replacement. Room 1 is not included in priority lists. What priority is it? | Priority 1 |
On Drawing 75-HA102, Room 101 is marked for asbestos insulation removal and replacement. Room 101 is not included in priority lists. What priority is it? | Priority 1 |
On Drawing 143-AF105, Room 4J-144 is marked for floor removal and replacement. Room 4J-144 is not included in priority lists. What priority is it? | Priority 4 |
On Drawing 144-HA101, Room 9 is marked for floor removal and replacement. Room 9 is not included in priority lists. What priority is it? | Priority 4 |
What options are available if the PHEAF device cannot be exhausted to the outside of the building due to the room or window configuration/sealed windows/location of project, etc.? | Contractor is responsible for developing and proposing means and methods of construction. |
Can the exhaust of the PHEAF device be vented indoors? | Yes |
If exhausted within the building, does the client require that an additional PHEAF device be operated in series (i.e., in tandem with one PHEAF exhausted through a second PHEAF)? | Yes |
Can the contractor keep a temporary storage or office trailer on site? | Yes |
There were areas with asbestos pipe insulation above a plaster ceiling. How many rooms/spaces are there that need plaster ceiling demolished to get to the ACM? | Yes |
Is repair and refinishing of the plaster ceilings following the abatement required in this contract? | Yes |
Have the plaster ceilings been tested for ACM? | Yes |
Does the VA provide an Industrial Hygienist to monitor the abatement or is the contractor required to hire a Hygienist for air monitoring, or are both required? | VA will provide monitor. Also see response to question 5
