3. BACKGROUND:
3.1.1. The purpose of this requirement is to provide Biopoint PI license and professional services that include maintenance and upgrade services on Biopoint Patient ID Software for the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) VISN 4. This project enhances efforts already underway within the Veterans Health Administration to provide the very best tools to caregivers to improve patient safety. In addition, the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals mandate the need for appropriate identification of patients to assure positive outcomes and avoid medical errors.

This will require technical support from contractor to reconfigure software to update what is displayed on Veteran wristbands. Within the term of this contract, the use of barcode technology may be expanded into the other patient care areas requiring technical support from the contractor to ensure a smooth transition into these areas.
3.1.3. Technical support may include but is not limited to: contractor point of contact for miscellaneous software/hardware related questions, modification, and implementation of software configuration for changes in the printing of patient wrist bands and software upgrades, and support in expanding functionality to additional departments within each VAMC.
4. POINT of CONTACTS and PLACES OF PERFORMANCE: The following locations require an integrated Patient Wristband System.
*Butler VA Health Care Center (North Duffy Road) opened an Infusion Clinic and requires Biopoint PI License and Professional Services to design patient wristbands and provide proper identification of Veterans using barcode technology and communication of alerts to caregivers about essential safety-related patient conditions (ex: fall risk, DNR). The Butler VA Healthcare Center (New Castle Road Campus) currently runs Data Capture Solutions’ Bio-Optronics software application, DH IdentifiOR to design patient wristbands that provide proper identification of Veterans using barcode technology and communication of alerts to caregivers about essential safety-related patient conditions (ex: fall risk, DNR).
