Contractor Questions – 36C24423Q0046

1. Will all (4) boilers be available at the same time for this work? If not, can you please explain how boiler shutdowns will be staged?

One boiler will be available at a time. When a completed boilers drum sealing has been verified, the next boiler will be made available. The next boiler will already be cooled but will need to be drained, and locked out, which could take several hours.

2. With there being (4) boilers, I would like to confirm that there is a total of (12) manhole surfaces/doors and not (16) manhole surfaces/doors.

12 Manholes doors only

3. Will the contractor need to provide and erect scaffolding to access the steam drum surfaces?

The steam drums are 9-10’ above the operating floor with no platforms present.

4. Who is the manufacturer and what is the model number of the boilers?

E. Keeler water tube boilers. One 40000#/hr and two 20000#/hr boilers

5. Can you please provide a legible picture of each boiler’s National Board Plate?

Manufacturer’s data sheets are attached.

6. Is there any information regarding the last known or current condition of the manhole surfaces?

Useful life testing has recommended resurfacing the mating surfaces of the drums due to age and pitting.

7. Will any weld build up on the manhole surfaces be required prior to machining?

There may be some build up required. We are able to get the doors to seal using specialized gasketing.

8. Will there be any internals to be removed to gain access to the confined spa.

I am not sure what space is needed for the milling equipment, it is possible the contract will need to remove some trays in the steam drum.

9. The scope of work mentions 4 boilers. Can you clarify if there are 3 or 4 boilers?

If there are 4 boilers can you share the data report for the fourth boiler?

Only three boilers, one has been taken out of service.

10. Can you confirm that a bond is not required for solicitation notice

36C24423Q0046?

No bond is required.
