About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding a solicitation for staffing anesthesiology physician and certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) services. The solicitation seeks to establish tiered evaluation contracts to provide on-site and on-call anesthesia support services at a Department of Veterans Affairs medical center. The document clarifies that both CRNAs and anesthesiologists will be on call simultaneously, increases the on-call clinical line item hours to accommodate the required on-call coverage for each full-time equivalent provider, and specifies the response times for on-call providers as 15 minutes by phone and 30 minutes on-site. It also provides estimates of typical monthly and annual anesthesia case volumes at 100-120 cases per month including 2-3 spine surgery cases per week, and outlines a 4-6 week timeline for temporary emergency credentialing and privileging of applicants with no reported malpractice cases.

1. The solicitation has CLINs for and discusses on-call time. Will both the CRNA and Anesthesiologist work on-call simultaneously, or is only one anesthesia provider (CRNA or Anesthesiologist) on call at a time?

Both will be on call

2. The government's recent answer to Question #8 would equate to the following hours:

Onsite tour of duty M-F = 2080 hrs On call hours 4pm though 7am next day during weekdays = 3120 hours Weekend call starts at 4pm Friday and ends at 730am Monday = 3276 hours

The Price/Cost schedule in the solicitation has 2080 hrs of onsite time and 3200hrs of on-call time per FTE. Based on this there are over 3000 on-call hours per FTE unaccounted for. If the government's prior answer is correct, Will the on-call CLIN hours be increased to accommodate the hours for every FTE that is required to be on-call (CRNA and Anesthesiologist)?

Yes, the on-call hours would be increase as needed.

3. The government’s answer to question # 8 states:

CRNA is expected to report to the facility when called within 30 minutes.

Page 17 of the solicitation, item 3.1.3.2 states “On-call provider must be available within 15 minutes by phone and on-site, within 60 minutes.”

Please clarify which is the correct on call expectation.

15 minutes via phone 30 minutes report to facility

4. How many cases requiring anesthesia support are typically done in the hospital on a monthly and annual basis?

100-120 cases per month

5. Are neurosurgical procedures done at this hospital?

Yes Only spine cases.

No craniotomies.

2-3 cases per week

6. What is the expected time frame for security and credentialing for this level of providers for this facility?

If no malpractice cases.

Emergency privileges can be granted in 4-6 weeks.

Applicant will need to provide requested information in timely manner to assist with credentialing.
