RFIs With Answers

1) Drawings has boxes with 'Red' and 'Blue' colors. Please advise if all these red and blue color notes are part of scope of the work.

Please pay attention to only the colored comment boxes and lines. The drawings are made by marking up existing drawings. Please disregard the old notes in black.

2) Drawing A-002 is missing.

A-002 is not a required drawing. It is referenced from the old notes (in black). Please disregard those notes.

3) Please define the correct scope of the work for plumbing work. Also, what is the grey PVC pipe under trailer for (it is understood it needs to be removed).

Contractor is to demolish all plumbing lines going to and from the trailers. The water line is copper and is connected to the hose bib outside of the Research Building and runs into both Trailers, with parts of the piping underground (see attached pictures). The sanitary lines come out of the trailers in multiple locations and is tied into a main line that is connected to the manhole outside of the gated area. Demolish these lines and seal the manhole penetration. The lines are not installed exactly as shown in P1.00. I’ve attached pictures of the original installation showing 2 sanitary lines connecting the trailers entering a main line running parallel to the trailers and sidewalk before turning towards the manhole.

The “grey” PVC pipe might be the white PVC that is sanitary line shown in the attached pictures or, if it is actually grey, then it is the electrical lines that was installed in a different path than shown on the drawings. The past installers could have run the electrical lines perpendicular to the transformer pad underground then brought them up under the trailers to save on burying large portions of the electrical conduit. Contractor to confirm during demolition if this is correct. The labor should be less extensive due to less excavation work if this is true.

4) Please clarify how many footings are to be removed from under the trailer. Also, all the existing steel beams has to be removed by contractor.

All the footings are to be removed. There are 14 footings per trailer as per my inspections and records. Contractor to confirm exact number of footings. There are also footings under the wooden walkway that must be removed. The numbers of footings under the walkway should be more than 6, but the exact number is not known until the walkway is removed. Steel beams should be a part of the trailer structure that will be removed by the company disposing the trailers. Contractor is expected to remove the skirt and wooden members under the steel beams to get to the utilities under the trailers.

5) After the trailers are removed does contractor has to restore the site area with top soil and seed?

Yes.

6) Page 2 of solicitation document is blank.

During pagination a Blank Page 2 was created Blank (from page break), however all information is in the Solicitation and Page 2 is Intentionally Blank.

7) Please advise which work is in scope of the work on drawing E5.01 That drawing is a riser diagram of the electrical wiring as it is now. The contractor should review the red notes to get the scope of the electrical modifications, which include demolishing the existing electrical wires and conduit up to a certain point, turning over electrical equipment, and installing a weather-rated underground pull box to keep the wires for future use. The contractor should also excavate around the penetration point into the research building and reseal the conduits. I’ve attached a photo of the previous installation to show the conduit penetrations.
