This is a Sources Sought Notice issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs Enterprise Procurement Office (EPO) for market research purposes to identify qualified suppliers of spine surgical microscopes. The VA is conducting research to determine vendor capability and resources to meet the Veterans Health Administration's requirement for ZEISS Kinevo 900 S microscope systems and associated equipment on a nationwide basis. The notice does not constitute a formal solicitation, commitment to award, or obligation to pay for submitted information, and the government may or may not issue a subsequent solicitation.

The scope covers an advanced optical surgical visualization system designed for spine procedures, including decompression, tumor removal, instrumentation, and microdissection. The system features motorized zoom and focus, high-intensity illumination, hybrid optical/digital viewing, 4K or higher-resolution video capture, fluorescence visualization options (indocyanine green–based vascular assessment), navigation data overlays, and compatibility with surgical navigation platforms. The package includes 64 contract line items encompassing the base KINEVO 900 S Robotic Visualization System and numerous optional modules, accessories, and peripherals such as fluorescence modules, video recording capabilities, monitoring systems, hand controls, DICOM packages, and various optical tubes and eyepieces. Vendors must respond by November 17, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time to Trevor.Mason@va.gov and Sara.Vickroy@va.gov with documentation including service plan details, company registration information (UEI/CAGE/SAM), business size, manufacturer or distributor details, country of origin designation, technical literature addressing minimum technical requirements, and an authorized distributor letter from the original equipment manufacturer. The intended contract structure is a single Requirements Contract with firm-fixed-price orders over a 12-month base period plus four optional 12-month periods. The NAICS code is 339113 with an 800-employee size standard, and performance locations include VA medical centers throughout the Continental United States and outside Continental United States facilities.

2.0 SCOPE OF WORK

A Microscope, Spinal Surgery is an advanced optical surgical visualization system designed to provide high‑resolution, high‑magnification, and well‑illuminated views of deep and narrow operative fields encountered in spine procedures. The system integrates apochromatic optical technology, digital imaging, and ergonomic controls to support precision microsurgical work, including decompression, tumor removal, instrumentation, and microdissection. The microscope provides a stable, maneuverable platform with motorized zoom and focus, long working‑distance lenses, and high‑intensity illumination suitable for deep spinal corridors. It supports hybrid optical/digital viewing, allowing the surgeon to operate through traditional eyepieces or external large‑format 3D monitors. Integrated imaging capabilities provide 4K or higher‑resolution video and still capture for clinical documentation, teaching, and intraoperative collaboration. Systems of this type include fluorescence visualization options (e.g., ICG (indocyanine green)‑based vascular assessment), navigation data overlays, assistant viewing optics, and compatibility with surgical navigation platforms. The microscope is mounted on a mobile, counterbalanced stand or arm designed for smooth, low‑effort repositioning during procedures. It includes OR‑ready connectivity (HDMI/SDI), DICOM/PACS export options, and supports wireless data functions depending on configuration. This equipment is used in neurosurgery, orthopedic spine surgery, and related specialties requiring precise micro visualization during complex spinal procedures.
