The 8ft posts shall be driven or dug into the ground a minimum of 3’: Construct end panels at the end of fence runs unless shown otherwise on the drawings. In addition, construct end panels on each side of a wire fence gate unless the gate is adjacent to a corner panel or stress panel, then one end panel may be omitted. When one leg of a corner panel is used for a gate, both panels shall be full end panels in the direction of the gate.
G. Corner Panels shall be installed in alignment of the fence using steel drill pipe (8ft in length for cross brace and 9ft in length for the posts that cross braces are attached to. The
8ft cross braces shall be welded to the 9ft posts). The 9ft posts shall be driven or dug into the ground a minimum of 3-4’: Refer to Corner Panel installation as shown on drawings.
H. Stone Deadman will be installed at minor drainage crossings to maintain tight wires and the 16-inch bottom wire spacing.
I. Wire: All wire shall be tightly and uniformly stretched and shall be securely attached to steel posts with standard wire clips. Wire is properly stretched when it is springy to the touch. Terminate wire at each end post, gate post, corner post, or stress panel by wrapping wire around the post two times and tie off by wrapping the incoming wire a minimum of four times. Refer to the Drawings for the Standard 38” Wire Spacing (12”, 4”, 4”, 18”).
Wire spacing shall be measured perpendicular to the ground and wire spacing will be 18 inches (smooth bottom wire), 4 inches (barbed wire), 4 inches (barbed wire), and 12 inches (smooth top wire) from the ground up. The top height of all wire shall not be higher than 38 inches above the ground.
Barbed wire must be stretched tight with similar tension on all 4 strands. The barbed wire shall not sag or be loose in any areas. Do not twist or bend barbed wire between posts to tighten strands.
Bottom and top fence strands will be smooth wire. Wire stays evenally spaced between t-posts.
J. Wire Fence Gates: Shall be installed in accordance with the spacing guidelines in this scope of work and as shown on the drawings.
K. Mechanical Gate Closures: Line up the latch with the gate. Adjust latch assembly after installation so that the latch does not bind and the gate hangs properly. Install a smooth wire loop 5 inches from the ground securely connected to the gatepost and shaped so that the gate stay shall be securely held in place.
L. Drainage Crossings: Construct drainage crossings as shown on the drawings, with an auxiliary fence of wire, rock weights, and steel drill pipe constructed under, independent of, and on the downstream side of the main fence so that in the event the crossing washes out, the main fence will not be damaged.
M. Site Preparation: If necessary and after discussion with the Contracting Officer Representative (COR), the contractor will be allowed to clear brush and trees by hand cutting or mowing up to five (5) feet maximum on each side of the fence line or 10 feet on one side of the fence. Provide minimum disturbance to existing vegetation. Dispose of debris by scattering on the job site.
