About this file

This is a Scope of Work document from the State of Utah Division of Purchasing, conducted by the Department of Natural Resources, for the procurement of a gravimeter by the Utah Geological Survey. The Utah Geological Survey seeks to purchase a CG-6 Autograv Meter or equivalent high-precision, survey-grade relative gravimeter with specified technical requirements including repeatability of less than 0.005 mGal, resolution of 0.001 mGal, and ultra-low instrumental drift. The equipment package includes a meter tripod, battery set with spare batteries, battery chargers, spare parts kit, carrying bag, and associated power and data cords. The gravimeter must record observed gravity with adjustable measurement duration, measurement standard deviation, tilt in X and Y directions, date and timestamp, temperature, and earth tide correction data. Delivery is required FOB destination to the Utah Geological Survey, ATTN: Kayla Smith, 1594 West North Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84116, with shipping costs to be included in the vendor's bid.

The project budget is $150,000, though this figure is noted as flexible. Tariff charges paid by the vendor may be reimbursable if detailed documentation is provided and the charges are processed through a written change order. The procurement methodology will award the contract to the lowest cost responsive and responsible vendor, resulting in a single purchase order award. This purchase supports the Utah Governor's "Operation Gigawatt" initiative, which allocated funds to expand the UGS geothermal research division. The new gravimeter is necessary to replace current instrumentation that is over 15 years old, as newer equipment provides greater precision, reduced calibration issues, and increased data collection capacity and productivity.

Attachment B: Scope of Work: Utah Geological Survey

1. Introduction

The Utah Geological Survey is seeking to purchase a gravimeter, which is a key piece of equipment for subsurface geological research. This equipment measures the changes in gravitational acceleration, which can be used to determine underground structures.

2. Background

As a part of the Utah Governor’s “Operation Gigawatt”, the UGS was allocated funds to expand our geothermal research division which includes purchasing new equipment. Our current gravimeters are over 15 years old. We are seeking to purchase the newer model, which is capable of greater precision than our current instrumentation. Newer equipment is subject to less calibration issues than earlier generations, therefore it would increase our data collection capacity and overall productivity.

3. Requirements

A CG-6 Autograv Meter or equivalent, with the following specifications.

• High-precision, survey-grade relative gravimeter: a specified repeatability of less than 0.005 mGal, a resolution of 0.001 mGal, and ultra-low instrumental drift

• Compact and easily portable for our field data collection campaigns.

• Meter tripod

• Battery set

• Spare batteries (2)

• Battery chargers

• Spare parts kit

• Carrying bag

• Power and data cords, and other associated accessories

The gravimeter needs to record the following data:

• observed gravity, including the ability to change the duration (output rate) of each individual observed gravity measurement

• measurement standard deviation

• tilt in the X and Y direction

• date and timestamp

• temperature

• earth tide correction (ETC)

4. Project Budget

We have budgeted $150,000 for this purchase although this number is flexible.

5. Delivery

Tariff charges paid by vendor may be reimbursable if the vendor can provide detailed documentation proving the amount of tariff paid for this specific order; however, tariff charges must be processed through a written “change order”.

Include cost of shipping in bid.
