About this file

This document contains contractor questions and agency responses to Amendment 0007 of Solicitation 28321319R00000017. The Social Security Administration seeks an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract to acquire hardware, software, maintenance, and support for its Open Systems Enterprise Disk Storage Infrastructure located across multiple sites. An offeror can propose a storage subsystem that also functions as a storage virtualization appliance, as long as it meets all requirements of Section 2.5, including the ability to independently complete a storage hardware migration from an old to new storage subsystem-virtualization appliance configuration.

Contractor Questions and Agency Responses Solicitation 28321319R00000017 Amendment 0007

Contractor Question 1 - RFP section 2.5 outlines the SSA’s requirements for OS Storage Virtualization Appliances because today SSA requires and uses Dell EMC VPLEX.

Open storage enterprise disk infrastructure solutions exist today that do not require separate appliances to meet SSA’s requirements to pool storage subsystems including OS1 through OS8 or OS1 through OS7– this functionality outlined in 2.5 is inherent in OS1-OS8 platform software.

Please confirm that based on the current requirement in section 2.5, offerors are not required to propose discrete storage virtualization appliances if the offeror’s proposed solution for OS1-OS8 meets the requirements outlined in Section 2.5.

Agency Response 1 – An Offeror can propose a storage subsystem that also functions as a storage virtualization appliance as long as the storage subsystem meets all salient requirements of Section 2.5. SSA added Sections 2.5.2.7 and 2.5.3.9 to the SOW to include the following statement. “The storage virtualization appliance, when imbedded in a storage subsystem proposed in Section 2.3, must be able to be to complete a storage hardware migration independently of the proposed old “storage subsystem – storage virtualization appliance” to a new “storage subsystem – storage virtualization appliance”.
