RFP 28321319R00000017
Amendment 5
· Access Density - The maximum number of Input Output (I/O) operations in a second performed by the subsystem divided by the amount of configured usable storage in the subsystem.
· Adaptive Copy - A non-synchronized process for copying data from one subsystem to another. Consistency is not achieved until every source track has been copied to the target subsystem. Applications include migrating data to a replacement subsystem within a site or to move data from a subsystem in one data site to another.
· Asynchronous - A type of replication that removes the requirement for each write to be replicated at the remote subsystem before it is acknowledged by the local server. In an asynchronous replication schema, the writes that occur over a short period of time (seconds or minutes) are packaged and then transmitted to the remote subsystem. Hence, the consistent copy at the remote site lags the primary site by a few seconds or minutes.
· Best Practices - Are methods or techniques with in a company or corporation that are accepted as superior to any alternatives because the methods or techniques produces results that are superior to those achieved by other means.
· Cipher - An algorithm for performing encryption or decryption—a series of well-defined steps that can be followed as a procedure.
· Data at Rest Encryption - Data at rest means data that is stored physically in any digital form. Encryption is the process of encoding a message or information in such a way that only authorized parties can access the data and those who are not authorized cannot access the data.
· End of Support Date – The date when the Contractor ends support for hardware or software.
· Loss of Data – When a storage hardware or software problem results in 1) SSA data being restored from a copy of the data (including backup copies and storage subsystem replication copies) that is not current (i.e. the most recent or up-to-date version of the data), or 2) SSA data is lost and not recoverable.
· Block Level Automated Tiering - Automatic storage tiering enables the movement of data blocks between types of storage devices. The blocks of data are moved to the device type that best meets each block of data performance requirements.
· Business Resilience - The technology and practices employed to 1) ensure mission-critical and mission-essential business applications, databases, and systems can be recovered in the event of a catastrophic failure at a site; and 2) provide the capability to recover business data that may be lost or corrupted by inadvertent human error, software failure, or limited hardware failure. For example, point-in-time copies or snapshots of data in concert with database logs can be used to recover portions of data that are lost or corrupted.
· Business Days – Monday through Friday, not including the Government observed holidays and any other holiday that may be designated by Executive Order, Federal Statute or the President’s proclamation.
· CONUS - Continental United States is the 48 contiguous states, and Washington District of Columbia (DC).
· Date of Acceptance - The date on which SSA validates the delivery of the ordered hardware and software. SSA will send the Contractor electronic mail confirmation that the equipment has been accepted.
· Effective Storage Capacity - The amount of data that can be storage on the subsystem after compression and De-duplication compared to actual amount of Useable Storage installed in a subsystem.
· De-duplication Gateway - A network appliance or server, which uses a special data compression technique to eliminate duplicate copies of repeating data. The de-duplicated data is stored on a separate storage subsystem.
· Factory Upgrade - A change to the storage equipment that occurs prior to the storage equipment being delivered to SSA.
· Field Upgrade - A change to the storage equipment that occurs after to the storage equipment has been delivered to SSA.
· Flash Storage - is an electronic (solid-state) non-volatile computer storage medium that can be electrically erased and rewritten.
· Gigabit (Gb) - is a unit of measurement for Ethernet Network bandwidth. One Gigabit is equal to 1,000,000,000 bits of data.
· Gigabyte (GB) – is a unit of data storage used to denote the size of data. One GB is equivalent to 1,000,000,000 bytes of data.
· High Availability - The ability to group or cluster computer systems in a way to prevent entire computer application failures when one component or computer system fails.
· Local Replication - Technologies in the storage subsystems that maintains one or more copies of the source data in the same subsystem. The local replicas can be frozen at a point in time under software control for use as a management information feed, for backup/recovery purposes, or other processes.
· Logical Unit Number (LUN) - In computer storage, a number used to identify a device addressed by one or more computer servers.
· Non-Volatile Memory express (NVMe) - A host controller interface and storage protocol that accelerates the transfer of data between enterprise and client systems and solid-state drives (SSDs) over a computer's high-speed Peripheral Component Interconnect Express.
· Object Storage - Object storage is a computer data storage architecture that manages data as objects.
· Petabyte (PB) – is a unit of data storage used to denote the size of data. One PB is equivalent to 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes of data.
· Recovery Point Objective - The maximum tolerable point in time from which data can be recovered after an incident or other disruption affecting IT operations. It is a measure of how much data an organization is willing to lose or re-enter in a disaster.
· Recovery Time Objective - The maximum duration of time within which a business process must be restored after a disaster or other disruption. RTO includes the time taken in attempting to fix a problem without a recovery, the recovery itself, testing, and communication with SSA. Decision time for SSA users is not included. It is a measure of how long an organization can tolerate having its mission critical systems offline.
· Remote Replication - Technologies that replicate data in a source storage subsystem to a physically different target storage subsystem using a communication network.
· Replication Consistency - In order for the replicated copy of a storage environment to be valid, it must be consistent. For a copy to be consistent, all of the writes associated with any operating system or application update must be made at the same time. For example, when a file system or database is updated, changes may be made both to data (e.g. a customer record) and to metadata (e.g. database index, catalog, or file allocation table).
· Recovery Manager (RMAN) - Backup and recovery management software developed by the Oracle Corporation. RMAN provides Oracle database backup, and recovery to address capabilities, addressing high availability and disaster recovery concerns.
· Service Time - The time between when the storage controller accepts the command and when it completes sending/receiving the data. Therefore, it excludes any time waiting for the path (adapter/switch) or device to become available and time needed to process the data by middleware.
· Server – A physical computer dedicated to run one or more applications.
· Software Defined Storage (SDS) - is a term for computer data storage software for policy-based storage provisioning and management of data storage independent of the underlying hardware. SDS includes a form of storage virtualization that separates the storage software from the hardware that manages it.
· Synchronous - A type of replication requiring each write to the primary storage subsystem be replicated to the remote storage subsystem before the completion of the I/O operation is acknowledged by the operating system (and underlying application) that issued the write.
· Terabyte (TB) – is a unit of data storage used to denote the size of data. One TB is equivalent to 1,000,000,000,000 bytes of data.
· Telecommuting - is a work arrangement in which Contractors perform assigned duties at the Contractor’s home or other worksites geographically convenient to their official duty station.
· Thin Provisioning - The act of using virtualization technology to give the appearance of more physical resource than is actually available. It is the consolidated and automated process of allocating just "the exact required amount" of server space at the time it is required.
· Usable Storage - The raw capacity minus the storage overhead imposed by the Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) or erasure coding protection schemas. Usable storage is measured in decimal base 10. Spare drives, or spare nodes or any other overhead needed by the storage subsystem, and storage saved by using thin provisioning are not included in usable storage.
· 24x7x365 - 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year. This refers to uninterrupted year-round support every day.
· 2.5-Inch Form Factor Drive - A storage device with a width of 3 inches or less.
