The project involves providing bullhog services to improve rangeland vegetation quality on approximately 605 acres located in Grand County, Utah, approximately 40 miles east of Moab. The work includes mastication of pinyon/juniper, serviceberry, birchleaf mountain mahogany, and Gambel's oak to create vegetation density closer to historic conditions, reduce competition, and improve wildlife habitat. The bid was open from 8/29/2017 to 9/6/2017, with a project completion deadline of June 30, 2018, and was limited to prequalified contractors on the current Rangeland Pre-Qualification List.

The contract was awarded to Deer Valley Sand & Gravel LLC for the lowest responsive bid. Participation was strictly limited to prequalified contractors, and bids from non-prequalified vendors would not be considered. The project involves mechanical removal and shredding of standing live and dead pinyon and juniper trees using a wheeled or tracked bullhog, with specific requirements for mulching depths, tree treatment, and preservation of certain tree species. The contractor is responsible for providing labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, and operating supplies, with access to the site involving a combination of paved highways, county dirt roads, and jeep trails, recommending four-wheel drive vehicles for navigation.

This task order includes the Contractor to furnish labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, operating supplies and incidentals. Project area totals approximately 605 acres as identified on attached site map.

Location and Description:

The project is located in Grand County, Utah 40 miles east of Moab, UT

Acreage: approximately 605 acres - dependent upon budget constraints and bids

SITE SPECIFICS:

Legal description: T 25S, R 25E, sections 34, 35, 36, T 26S, R25E, Sections 1, 2, 3, and 4. Elevations range from 7,500 to 8,500 feet within the project site. The total number of acres within the project area is 605 acres.

Access to the site: Access onto the project site is provided by a combination of paved highways, county dirt surface roads and jeep trails. Four (4) wheel drive vehicles are recommended in and around the project area. It will be the contractor’s responsibility to get the equipment to the work site.

SPECIFIC TASKS:

These species are generally mixed with Gambel’s oak and most treatments would occur in conjunction with the Gambel’s oak treatments. Group selection regeneration treatments will also be applied to Gambel’s oak to regenerate a portion of the mid-aged and mature vegetation to diversify stand structure and provide more palatable plants for wildlife consumption.

Leave islands and/or individual leave trees have been excluded from the project acres and are identified on the project maps. In addition, all trees not identified as pinyon or juniper shall be designated as leave trees. Additional no cut islands and buffer areas throughout the project area may be identified by project inspector.
