This 21 acre project at McCord Pond WMA in Guthrie County at Coordinates 41.83579, -94.60394 is to accomplish tree removal and tree piling to remove invasive species and improve habitat by preparing the area to be reconstructed to diverse native prairie. The project area has a road (Hickory Avenue) on the West boundary and a road (120th St) on the South Boundary. These two boundaries also have powerlines, the West with the powerline in the right of way and the South with it on the South side of the road. It will be important that trees along these boundaries are removed in a matter that does not damage the powerlines/power poles and the county gravel roads. The project area has had understory brush and small trees forestry ground. There are existing tree piles from earlier tree removal projects. These piles will be added to instead of creating new. Project will be subject to change based on the DNR’s discretion based on bid results and available funding. Changes could include reduction of tree removal acres and/or reduction of tree piling.
