About this file

This is a Frequently Asked Questions document for a state and local contract opportunity issued by Macon-Bibb County related to road milling and asphalt paving services (Project ID: 26_053_LH). The project encompasses full-width milling and asphalt paving operations on county roadways, with specific requirements for milling depths, asphalt placement, patching operations, and shoulder work. Key operational details include standard work hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with provisions for approved night work on downtown streets. The scope includes full-depth milling from curb to curb or road edge to road edge, placement of 12.55mm asphalt at 1.5 inches depth for patching and select roads, and 9.5mm Type 1 asphalt at 1.25 inches depth on most roads except Fulton Mill Road which requires 1.5 inches. Additional work items include patching to address cracking (maximum four inches deep), shoulder clipping with material removal, and adjustment or replacement of manholes and water valves as determined in the field.

The document establishes technical specifications and contractor flexibility for project execution, including allowances for tripod or post-mounted advance warning signs, shuttle buggy use as optional rather than required for asphalt placement, and contractor discretion for patching area identification and sizing. Final repaving must be completed within one day of milling operations. No asphalt compaction testing is required for submission to Macon-Bibb County, and driveway paving is excluded from the scope. Contractors are required to bid both manhole and water valve adjustment items and riser installation items, with field conditions determining which method will be employed.
