About this file

This is a Frequently Asked Questions document for the Paving The Way Project 8, a road milling and paving project administered by the Macon-Bibb County Engineering Department in Macon, Georgia. The project involves full-width milling and asphalt paving operations on multiple roadways, including specific work on Fulton Mill Road and surrounding areas. Key operational parameters include standard work hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with provisions for night work approval on downtown streets. The project requires full-depth milling from curb to curb or road edge to road edge, patching to a maximum depth of four inches as needed to remove cracking, and asphalt placement at specified depths of 1.25 inches on most roads and 1.5 inches on Fulton Mill Road. Shoulder clipping is limited to material removal from the site with no additional shoulder building or signage installation required. A pre-bid conference was scheduled for June 24, 2026, with a question submission deadline of June 26, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. Sealed bids were due by 12:00 p.m. on July 16, 2026, for public opening at 2:00 p.m. the same day.

The project specifications detail asphalt mix requirements including 12.55mm asphalt at 1.5 inches depth for patching operations and 9.5mm Type 1 asphalt at varying depths for the main paving work. Patching mix must match the paving mix, and no asphalt compaction testing is required for submission to Macon-Bibb County. Contractors have flexibility in advance warning sign placement using either tripod or post-mounted configurations, and the use of shuttle buggies during 12.5mm placement is permitted but not mandatory. Final repaving must be completed within one day of milling work. Both manhole and water valve adjustments and risers are listed as separate bid items, with field determination to occur regarding which method will be used. The solicitation encourages participation from Minority, Women-Owned, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises, with contact information provided for small business assistance.
