About this file
This is a Requirements/Specifications document from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for the procurement of a two-channel microwave signal generator to support research activities in ultrastable lasers and low noise microwave signals at the PML/Time and Frequency/Precision Photonic Synthesis Group.
The primary item required is one two-channel microwave signal generator with the following key specifications: two independent output channels with greater than 75 dB channel-to-channel isolation at 0 dBm output; frequency range from at least 1 MHz to 12 GHz on each channel; output power range from -30 dBm to +10 dBm; phase noise performance of less than -125 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset on a 1 GHz carrier and less than -105 dBc/Hz on a 10 GHz carrier; 50-ohm output impedance with N-type, SMA, or 3.5 mm connectors; continuous-wave and modulated continuous-wave waveform capability; internal and external modulation of amplitude, frequency, or phase; capability to accept external 10 MHz timebase; minimum frequency step size of 0.05 Hz or less; output power setting resolution of at least 0.05 dB; channel-to-channel phase stability better than 2 degrees on a 10 GHz carrier; phase setting range of ±180 degrees with minimum resolution of 0.1 degree; and USB or GPIB communication interface. The device may operate as self-contained, externally computer controlled, or both, with settings displayable on the unit, external monitor, or computer. Delivery of goods, installation, and training must be completed within 12 weeks after receipt of order. Government acceptance testing is planned for 7 business days. The document indicates that base manufacturer warranty is acceptable, and no special planning considerations, installation services, training, maintenance, or travel requirements are specified.
