About this file

This document is a Statement of Objectives (SOO) specifying requirements for a multi-channel 12 GHz microwave synthesizer. The government is procuring one synthesizer unit with five total independent channels: three channels capable of generating sinusoidal output from 10 MHz to 12 GHz and two channels generating output from 10 MHz to 6 GHz (though 12 GHz capability is permissible). All channels require SMA connectors with 50 Ohm nominal load, output power ranging from -10 to 15 dBm, frequency step size of at most 0.001 Hz, and frequency and amplitude switching speeds of at most 500 microseconds. The three 12 GHz channels must demonstrate harmonic amplitude relative to 0 dBm carrier less than -25 dBc over 1–10 GHz, with SSB phase noise specifications of less than -90 dBc/Hz at 6 GHz (100 Hz offset), -110 dBc/Hz at 6 GHz (10 kHz offset), -85 dBc/Hz at 12 GHz (100 Hz offset), and -95 dBc/Hz at 12 GHz (10 kHz offset). Both channel sets must perform list-based frequency and amplitude scans; the two lower-frequency channels require an additional dedicated analog modulation port for frequency control with 100 kHz deviation and 20 kHz modulation bandwidth using a +/- 1V signal.

The synthesizer must include 10/100 MHz reference input and 100 MHz reference output capability, operate on standard US 110V AC consuming less than 100W, function under normal laboratory conditions (25°C), and feature programmability via USB and/or SPI or equivalent digital protocols. The chassis must fit in a 19-inch rack-mountable format less than 3U high without requiring dedicated mounting hardware. Additional requirements include calibration certification and computer-based control through a graphical user interface, with front panel control not necessary.
