About this file

This construction document set, prepared by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Engineering Section, presents plans and specifications for the Perkins Marsh Outlet Construction Project (Project No. 26-01-74-01) located in Palo Alto County, Iowa. The project involves installing an intake structure and approximately 1,400 linear feet of 12-inch dual wall high-density polyethylene (HDPE) field tile through private property easements. Key work items include mobilization, installation of non-perforated 12-inch dual wall tile meeting SUDAS Section 4020 specifications, granular bedding and backfill materials, private tile repairs and reconnections, installation of 15-inch corrugated metal pipe (CMP) at the outlet, placement of a pre-cast intake structure on 12 inches of Class 1 bedding material, Class 10 channel excavation with spoil management, tile search and exposure at two locations, installation of 12-inch heavy duty bar guards, and 15-inch rodent guards. The bid date is scheduled for September 10, 2026.

All work shall conform to the current edition of the Iowa SUDAS Specifications Manual and applicable codes and ordinances. Contractors are required to visit the project site prior to bidding to familiarize themselves with actual job conditions and verify all dimensions and site conditions shown on the plans. The contractor bears responsibility for identifying and avoiding existing utilities and underground facilities, managing waste and disposal sites for excess material, protecting desirable vegetation and trees outside construction limits, and implementing erosion control features including seeding, silt fence, rock ditch checks, and silt basins as needed. Tile burial depth requirements vary based on depth classification, ranging from no bedding for depths shallower than 4 feet to Class F-3 specifications for depths exceeding 10 feet. The project documents include five sheets covering project overview, quantities and general information, tile plan and profile, channel plan and profile, and construction details.

Where utilities and fixtures are shown as Existing on the plans or encountered within the construction area, it shall be the responsibility of the contractor to notify the DNR Engineer of those utilities prior to the beginning of any construction. The contractor shall be afforded access to these facilities for necessary modification of services. Underground facilities, structures and utilities have been plotted from available surveys and records and therefore their locations must be considered approximate only. It is possible there may be others, the existence of which is presently not known or shown. It is the contractor’s responsibility to determine their existence and exact location and to avoid damage thereto. No claims for additional compensation will be allowed to the contractor for any interference or delay caused by such work.

Revision Date Details

For tile depth shallower than 4', no bedding material necessary.

For tile depths of 4'–7', install tile per Class F-1 OR use a concave saddle excavation in the undisturbed trench invert. If a saddle excavation is used, it shall be precisely contoured to match the outside radius of the pipe. The shaped saddle shall provide continuous, uniform support over a minimum 90° arc along the entire pipe run to prevent point loading and lateral shifting.

For tile depths 7' - 10', bury tile per Class F-2.

For tile depths greater than 10', bury tile per Class F-3.
