About this file
This is a Purchase Description document for the acquisition of laboratory equipment by the National Institutes of Health's Human Brain Collection Core. The solicitation (75N98026Q00821) requests the procurement of one QIAcube Connect MDx SYS-FUL-1 instrument to replace an existing QIAcube system that the manufacturer Qiagen is discontinuing. The purchase includes the instrument itself, a starter accessory set, operating software, installation services, familiarization and training, and standard warranty coverage. The equipment will support RNA and DNA purification workflows and must maintain compatibility with over 80 existing Qiagen spin-column kits to ensure continuity of standardized nucleic acid extraction protocols critical for downstream molecular analyses.
The QIAcube Connect features automated processing of up to 12 samples per run, a large color touchscreen with intuitive software interface, integrated barcode scanner for sample tracking, secure connectivity with QIAremote monitoring software, and a closed system design to minimize cross-contamination. The equipment is CE-IVD compliant and suitable for clinical research environments. Delivery is requested to the HBCC located in Building 10, Room 4N218 at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland, with a desired delivery timeframe of 60 days after order receipt. The contract vehicle and GSA contract number are to be provided by the government. No options, alternative delivery dates, or period of performance terms are specified in this procurement.

PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose:
We are requesting the acquisition of one (1) QIAcube Connect to replace the existing QIAcube system, which will soon be discontinued by the manufacturer, Qiagen. This instrument will support RNA and DNA purification workflows in the Human Brain Collection Core (HBCC), and ensure continuity of standardized nucleic acid extraction protocols that are critical for downstream molecular analyses.
2. Background Information and Objective:
The HBCC routinely processes tissue samples for RNA and DNA extraction using the Qiagen QIAcube, which automates spin-column protocols to improve consistency and reduce hands-on time. Qiagen has announced that it will soon discontinue production and support of the original QIAcube model. To maintain compatibility with Qiagen’s existing kits and protocols and to avoid workflow disruption, we are seeking to procure the updated version, QIAcube Connect.
The QIAcube Connect offers improved performance, a modern user interface, and enhanced connectivity features, while remaining fully compatible with all existing QIAcube kits. Replacing the original unit with the updated model is necessary to ensure uninterrupted, standardized processing of biospecimens.
3. Generic Name of Product: QIAcube Connect MDx SYS-FUL-1
