About this file
This document is a Performance Specification for a TACAN (Tactical Air Navigation) Shore Based Antenna, dated 7 September 2021, developed by PMA-213. The specification establishes comprehensive technical requirements for a vertically polarized antenna system capable of transmitting radio frequency energy in the 960-1215 MHz frequency band, designed to interface with the AN/URN-32 TACAN Transponder.
Key technical requirements include an electronically scanning antenna with specific performance parameters such as an omnidirectional radiation pattern, a peak antenna gain of at least 8.0 dBi, precise azimuth and vertical field pattern specifications, and stringent environmental and operational conditions. The antenna system must operate in temperatures ranging from -46°C to 49°C, withstand wind velocities up to 150 mph, handle up to ½ inch of ice accumulation, and have an achieved availability greater than 0.99. Additional critical specifications cover electrical interfaces, modulation characteristics, monitoring capabilities, power consumption (not to exceed 300W), physical dimensions (maximum 6 feet diameter, 11 feet height), and total weight under 900 pounds. The specification is marked for public release with unlimited distribution.
