Campground Restroom Replacement Project Summary
This document is a set of construction plans and project specifications prepared by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Engineering Section for the Campground Restroom Replacement project at Pikes Peak State Park in Clayton County, Iowa. The project involves the removal of an existing vault restroom building, one tree stump, and existing sidewalk, with backfilling of the building demolition void using modified subbase. A new prefabricated concrete vault restroom building (single pit, right entry model manufactured by Huffcutt Concrete Inc.) will be installed with electrical service connection, new reinforced concrete sidewalk, ADA parking space with painted markings, concrete parking bumper, and associated site improvements. Additional work includes site grading, erosion control measures, seeding, and stockpiling of crushed stone. The project contains specific material quantities: 146 tons of modified subbase for backfill, 27 tons of modified subbase under new pavement, 32 tons of Class A crushed stone base, 57 square yards of reinforced PCC pavement, 9 square yards of reinforced PCC sidewalk, and 80 linear feet of electrical connection. Construction is limited to Monday through Thursday operations to avoid interference with campground visitors. The bid closing date and time is November 19, 2026, at 3:00 PM, with electronic bid submission required. A site visit and inspection of actual job conditions prior to bidding are mandatory.
The contract specifications require all work to conform to applicable codes and ordinances, with the contractor responsible for utility disconnection and termination, waste disposal, and erosion control maintenance throughout the project duration. The prefabricated restroom building has a specified finish floor elevation of 1,106.40 feet and must be installed on 9 inches of compacted Class A crushed stone with tank excavation extending a minimum of 12 inches beyond tank sides. The contractor must coordinate acceptable road closures and traffic control plans with the DNR District Engineer and notify the District Engineer of the expected building delivery date prior to installation. The document specifies that cutting of the tree stump shall be performed only between October 1st and March 31st, and a licensed electrician must be used for the electrical connection with verification of wire sizing and potential inspection by the State Fire Marshal. No payment for overhaul will be allowed for material hauled to disposal sites, and no material placement is permitted within rights-of-way unless specifically approved by the DNR Engineer.
