AEGIS POWER TETRODE TUBES
13 AUGUST 2023
1. SCOPE
This Statement of Work (SOW) contains the requirements for manufacturing, repair, rebuild, testing, quality assurance, configuration management and administrative requirements of the TETRODE POWER GRID TUBES, hereinafter known as “Switch Tube" (SWT) and “4CW Tubes”, in support of the Aegis Weapons System and tubes testing support systems found at NSWC Crane and vendors for various tube-types.
1.1 BACKGROUND
The 4CW Tubes are found in some of the Electromatic Inc. (ETM) modulators located at NSWC Crane and vendor facilities. These modulators are used for testing the 10kW Travelling Wave Tubes (TWTs), Crossed-Field Amplifier (CFA) tubes, Simplified Driver (SDR) tubes and Continuous Wave Illuminator tubes (CWI) utilized in the AEGIS SPY-1 Radar System.
The Switch Tubes are one of the five tubes within the AEGIS SPY-1, a 3D Radar System which is a key component of the AEGIS Weapons System, the world’s most advanced combat system. Double duty (D/D) switch tubes (SWTs) are also used in CFA test sets located at NSWC Crane and AEGIS vendors.

The first exhaust after the original effort shall have serial number (S/N) plus R1. The next exhaust would be serial number (S/N) plus R2, etc. The numerical suffix will show the number of times the vacuum envelope has been opened for tracking purposes. This record shall consist of all vacuum openings including any prior to initial acceptance of a tube. The R suffix shall be indicated on all paperwork, records, documents, etc. associated with a particular tube. The R suffix shall only be used when a tube must be exhausted as necessitated by the rebuild effort.
