About this file
This is an Addendum Two to Request for Bid #2319 issued by Kenosha County for Petrifying Springs Shelter #5 Immediate Repairs, dated July 24, 2023. The addendum addresses seven key questions and answers regarding material specifications and construction procedures for the shelter repair project. Specified brick manufacturers include Bowerston Shale Company (Model #1110 Cherry Flash Smooth Modular) and Glen-Gery Corporation (Red Smooth Flashed Modular), with approval of equal products permitted. Roofing shingles are specified as Owens Corning Duration Series Shingles, also with approved equal options. The contractor must submit working mock-ups at Shelter #5 to establish standards for materials, colors, and craftsmanship, with reference to similar work completed at Shelter #3 as a benchmark for the degree and extent of brick repairs expected.
The addendum clarifies that wind uplift strapping and anchors are to be replaced in-kind with minimal deterioration to existing building components, and field conditions requiring modifications necessitate contractor-issued Requests for Information (RFI) and potential Construction Bulletins from the Architect. Electrical conduit is to remain in place and be protected during masonry arch repairs unless field conditions warrant removal, which requires RFI direction. Ceiling boards are intended to remain in place but must be replaced in-kind if removal becomes necessary. Paint repairs are not included in the base bid work and require RFI approval if field conditions warrant such work. Any work outside the base bid documents requires Change Order approval prior to execution, with potential impacts on project time and budget. Drawing 3/A301 provides the specified detail for wind uplift column base anchorage and installation.

Questions & Answers:
Q1. Is there a selection for brick and shingles?
A. Answer The brick and shingles are to be provided for review by Kenosha County and Architect and approved by the Architect prior to proceeding with the work.

a. Manufacturer: Bowerston Shale Company (Hanover Plant) of Newark, Ohio
i. Model: #1110 Cherry Flash Smooth Modular
b. Manufacturer: Glen-Gery Corporation
i. Model: Red Smooth Flashed Modular
c. Or approved Equal.
Shingles
a. Manufacturer: Owens Corning Roofing and Asphalt, LLC of Toledo, Ohio.
i. Model: Duration Series Shingles
b. Or approved Equal.
Q2. Key Note 4 says to replace wind uplift strapping at the posts. This note appears to just want new strapping bolted into existing concrete, however these bases may break apart if we try to remove old strapping and add new bolts into it. Some of the concrete is already eroded at the posts and if new concrete at the posts is required for this note, we would need to know the extent of concrete repair. We really need some more information on this or detail of what would be expected so there are no misunderstandings.
a. The intent is to replace the uplift straps and anchors in-kind.
The contractor is to perform work in a manner to minimize deterioration of existing building components. If during the work, the contractor encounters conditions which do not allow for adequate anchorage of straps, the Contractor is to issue an RFI for clarification on how to proceed. The Architect will then respond to the RFI and may issue a Construction Bulletin to address the conditions in the field.

Q3. The repairs to the masonry arch on this shelter will require electrical conduit to be removed and replaced?
