About this file
This is a specifications document for a Sulfur Carbon Analyzer instrument sought by Auburn University's College of Agriculture in Alabama through a sealed bid procurement process. The instrument must be a high-temperature combustion analyzer with infrared absorption detection compliant with ASTM standards D-4239, D-5016, D-1552, D-1619 and ISO standards 15178 and 19579. Key specifications include optional dual infrared cell detector capabilities for sulfur analysis, modular and upgradeable design accommodating field kits for sulfur and carbon analysis, a high-temperature model supporting furnace temperatures up to 1550°C, capacity for macro samples up to 350 mg, and a random access autoloader with minimum 100-sample unattended capacity. The instrument must complete sulfur and carbon analyses within two minutes, utilize solid-state infrared cells with heated thermal isolation, and operate on 230V 15A power with capability to function across 195 to 253 volts.
The instrument must include a 22-inch touchscreen interface with a six-axis boom-mount, compatibility with external balances, printers, and Laboratory Information Management Systems, and comprehensive software featuring real-time diagnostics with 30-day storage buffer, multilingual interfaces, customizable reporting, user-defined maintenance tracking, and remote mobile viewing capabilities. Required software functionality includes automatic systems checks, performance package options with leak detection and electronic back pressure control, and remote service diagnostics capabilities. The vendor must be a U.S. manufacturer providing direct sales, support, and service without third-party distribution. No pricing terms, set-asides, incumbents, funding sources, or contract term information is detailed in this specifications document.

Text version
• Instrument must be a High-Temperature Combustion instrument using Infrared Absorption detection compliant to ASTM Standard D-4239, D-5016, D-1552, or D-1619, and ISO 15178 and 19579.
• Instrument must have optional model (DR) using two infrared cell detectors for sulfur, and have manual range selection or auto-selection capabilities controlled by the operator.
• Instrument must be modular for elements, and upgradeable with field kits (from sulfur to sulfur/carbon or carbon to sulfur/carbon, and upgrade to Performance and/or DR model options).
• Instrument must have optional high temperature (HT) model supporting furnace temperatures up to 1550 °C eliminating the need of combustion accelerators for most refractory samples.
• Instrument must be capable of performing analyses on macro samples up to 350 mg in a reusable ceramic sample container. Sample sizes may vary depending upon the sample density, concentration, and methodology requirements established by governing bodies (i.e. ASTM).
• Instrument must be compatible and equipped with a random access autoloader providing unattended sample capacity of at least 100 samples.
• Instrument must use a horizontal concentric combustion tube with a dedicated lance tube that directs pure oxygen over the sample container, ensuring rapid analysis times and full sulfur recovery.
• Instrument must use a high-eƯiciency furnace capable of temperature control up to 1450 °C ±10 oC of set point, and oƯer an optional high temperature (HT) model with temperature control up to 1550 °C ±10 oC of set point, with intelligent furnace control using molybdenum disilicide heating elements resulting in a system power requirement of 230V 15A, with the ability to operate under full load from 195 to 253 volts.
• Reagent train must be safely located behind the cabinet shield.
• Instrument must have the ability to remove sample ash residues post-analysis, eliminating ash build-up within the furnace and avoiding furnace maintenance and flow restrictions.
• Instrument must be capable of performing an analysis for sulfur and carbon elements within two minutes.
• Instrument must provide compatibility to an external balance, printer, and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) with customizable transport feature supporting file, ethernet, or serial data transporting.
• Instrument must provide compatibility and include an external 4-place balance that has a USB interface cable
• Instrument must use operating software that contains an on-board instrument manual and guide with illustrations and animations, and perform wellness checks of the instrument based on user-defined service conditions.
• Instrument must have an available performance package option oƯering an instrument leak check feature providing a valuable diagnostic tool and increasing the reliability of the system, and an electronic back pressure control providing isolation to changes in atmospheric pressure resulting in improved long-term stability.
• Instrument must utilize solid-state (no moving parts) infrared cells with independent heated thermal isolation for detection of both sulfur and carbon, providing superior isolation from ambient temperature fluctuations and other environmental variables.
• Instrument must use an on-board software platform powered by a large touch-screen (22-inch, wide screen format) interface with a six-axis boom-mount increasing ergonomics, usability and operational control without using valuable bench space.
• Instrument software must dynamically display average, standard deviation, and relative standard deviation for sample replicate sets while archiving all data and oƯering user-defined filters.
• Software must have flexible, user-defined, customizable instrument display and reports oƯering tabular and plotting reporting options.
• The instrument must have a Pause/Delayed Start function that allows automatic start up, and equilibrated at any time selected by the user, allowing the system to be ready any time the user defines.
• The instrument software must contain real-time service diagnostics with a 30-day storage buƯer including ambient charts of instrument temperatures, pressures, and detector signal; manual control of solenoids and switches; and network and communications diagnostic.
• The instrument software must contain an automatic systems check that verifies internal network communications, solenoids and switches, system pressures, furnace control, and temperature.
• The instrument software must have user-definable counters to aid in the tracking of routine maintenance procedures and reagents or other expendable components.
• The instrument software must have user-definable display fields supporting text or numerical entries with ability to perform automatic calculations based on the elemental results using an intuitive equations editor feature.
• The instrument software must oƯer multilingual user interface options with customizable user permissions based upon user login credentials enhancing security, accountability, and logging functions.
• Instrument software must have a remote mobile viewing option oƯering remote viewing of the instrument software from a smartphone, tablet, or PC, and set automatic notifications from the instrument against predefined software conditions using e-mail, text message, or the Cornerstone Mobile Application.
• The instrument is manufactured in the United Stated of America. All sales, support, and service is directly from the manufacturer and not a third party distributor.
• The instrument vendor must be able to provide remote service diagnostics with a separate software package designed specifically to connect the user with the instrument's service personnel.
