About this file
This document is an Addendum for a state-funded project titled "Millecoquins Trail No 2 Bridge Repair Project" with DTMB File No. 751/21024.ABG, located in Garfield Township, Mackinac County, Michigan. The addendum is being issued to revise and clarify the content of the project bid documents based on questions received at the mandatory pre-bid meeting on February 28, 2023. Key updates include revised prevailing wage rates, clarification on the existing bridge superstructure weight and load rating, confirmation that the contractor will need to import fill material, and acceptance of Douglas Fir timber as an alternative to the specified Southern Yellow Pine. The bid due date is March 15, 2023 at 2:00 PM EST, and the project includes 19 base bid items such as mobilization, earthwork, timber piles and decking, and site restoration, with a $5,000 allowance.
The bid schedule has been revised to include a separate line item for 6% project closeout. Pricing terms, funding sources, and set-asides are not explicitly stated in the addendum, but the project is state-funded. The addendum provides contact information for the Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), who are overseeing the project.

MILLECOQUINS TRAIL NO 2
BRIDGE REPAIR PROJECT DTMB FILE NO. 751/21024.ABG
ADDENDUM NO. 1
File No.: 751/21024.ABG Department of Natural Resources
Project Name: Millecoquins Trail No 2 Bridge Repair Project Subject: Request for Bids – Addendum 1
DATE: Wednesday, March 8, 2023 BID DATE: Wednesday, March 15, 2023 TO: All Bidders INTENT: This Addendum is issued to revise and clarify the content of the project bid documents as a result of written questions received by the PSC as well as questions raised during the course of the mandatory construction pre-bid meeting that was held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
ATTACHMENTS: 1. Pre-Bid Meeting Attendees List
2. Updated Bid Schedule
ADDENDUM ITEM WRITE UP:
- Item 1 – Response to Questions o Question 1 – Project is in Mackinac County, but agenda references state prevailing wages for Luce County.
Response – Mandatory Pre-Bid Meeting Agenda has been revised to reference state prevailing wages for Mackinac County.
o Question 2 – What is the weight of the existing superstructure?
Response – As stated on Sheet C-03 of the plans: “PER
MANUFACTURER, THE "4 BEAM SECTION" (BEAMS 1, 2, 5, 6) HAS A
TOTAL WEIGHT OF APPROXIMATELY 33K.”
o Question 3 – I have an idea for the bid schedule. Instead of reworking after the bid is accepted to achieve the 6% close-out, I think it should be at the bottom of the bid tab. There is room to slide it in right after the allowance.
Response – The Bid Schedule has been revised and attached.
o Question 4 – What is the load rating of the existing bridge?
Response – 15 Tons.
o Question 5 – Is there a borrow pit on state property close by or does all fill need to be purchased and imported by the contractor?
Response – No, contractor should plan to import fill.
o Question 6 – What type of wood is the timber pile made of?
Response – Per specification Section 31 22 19, Driven Timber Piles, Section 2.01.A.1 (top of Page 4): “Piles shall be either southern yellow pine or Douglas fir or other woods of similar strength and physical characteristics conforming to the provisions of ASTM D 25, Standard Specification for Round Timber Piles.”

o Question 7 – We proposes to supply Douglas Fir #1 treated timber for all members. Please advise if this will be acceptable as the plans state Southern Yellow Pine or Equal. Timber grade is not provided in the plan notes.
Response – Pile Cap shall be constructed of Southern Yellow Pine
No. 1 & Better. Timber Lagging for the head and wing walls may be constructed using Southern Yellow Pine or Douglas Fir-Larch (North) No 1 & Better.
o Question 8 – We proposes to use Oil-borne Copper Naphthenate treated lumber with retentions to meet AWPA UC-4C for all material on the project. Copper Naphthenate is typically the preservative DNR/DTMB specifies on these bridge projects. Please advise if acceptable (as an FYI ACQ is no longer produced or available).
Response – Oil-borne Copper Naphthenate treated lumber with retentions to be meet AWPA UC-4C is an approved alternative.
o Question 9 – For the timber, I see the deck planks are called out as rough sawn.
What is the desired dressing for all the other timber, will it be rough sawn or surfaced? If surfaced, what surfacing is desired?
Response – Rough sawn dressing may be used on all other timbers.
Bidder shall acknowledge receipt of this Addendum at the bottom of the Bid Summary form to be submitted as part of the greater bid.
