About this file
This is an Equipment and Operator Form document for Solicitation #2027-289, issued by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on September 22, 2026, for the Gemmel Ridge Winter Brush Mowing project. The project involves mowing and mulching standing woody vegetation on up to 50 acres of brushland habitats within State Forestry lands located approximately 19 miles northeast of Northome, Minnesota, off Gemmell Road. Target vegetation consists primarily of willow, alder, young aspen, and other brush species ranging from 0.25 to 5.0 inches in diameter. Bidders must submit responses electronically through the Swift Portal, and interested contractors may schedule site visits by contacting Project Supervisor Austin Fischer at 218-328-8867. The DNR reserves the right to award items separately, by grouping, or by total as deemed most advantageous to the State, and will make the award to the lowest responsible vendor meeting all specifications and terms.
Equipment specifications require either a rubber tracked skid steer with minimum 100 gross engine horsepower and 35.0 gallons per minute hydraulic flow with ground pressure not exceeding 5.5 psi, a tracked crawler with minimum 135 gross engine horsepower and 40.0 gallons per minute hydraulic flow with ground pressure not exceeding 7.0 psi, or a rotary axe with minimum 180 gross engine horsepower equipped with tracks or high flotation tires and ground pressure not exceeding 7.0 psi. Equipment must be capable of effectively mowing and mulching vegetation up to 5.0 inches in diameter. Operators must each have a minimum of 250 hours of experience operating the type of equipment to be used on the project. Unit prices must include all costs such as labor, materials, tools, transportation, equipment, sales tax, use tax, and all else necessary for project completion. Direct Pay Permit 1114 does not apply to this project.
