About this file

This is Addendum #2 containing RFI responses for the 2025 WMAES Monument Sign project at 4401 Leonard St NW. The project involves removing and disposing of the existing electronic message center sign and installing a new monument sign with brick construction and electronic message capabilities. The agency is seeking design proposals that incorporate both branding elements and a large electronic message center display, with creative freedom within city ordinance limits.

The RFI responses clarify several key specifications: the prime contractor must hold their own licenses rather than rely on subcontractors; brick is preferred but no specific finish is required; dimensions must comply with city codes; and regarding the electronic message center, the agency is open to exploring 6mm, 8mm, or 10mm resolution options with associated cost differences. Vendor selection will be based on both price and design factors. The agency welcomes demonstrations of different resolution options from vendors like Watchfire to evaluate quality and cost tradeoffs. The goal is to achieve a high-quality EMC display while balancing visibility of branding elements.

4. Do you have a particular stone/brick in mind?

Response: We are interested in brick but no specific finish at this time.

5. Will the decision to select a vendor be based on price or design?

Response: Price and design will both be factors in the bid selection process.

6. Is the sq footage you have specified what is allowable by code or is that arbitrary?

Response: The dimensions are approximations but will need to be verified by awarded bidder with the city codes.

7. Would the preference be for a larger message center or a larger branding element?

Response: We are open to varying options with message center and branding element proportions. The goal is for the screen to be a large component of the sign while balancing visible view of the branding.

8. Is there a specific reason for specifying 6mm, When a 10mm or 8mm would be more than adequate at a considerable cost savings?

Response: We are seeking a high-quality EMC display. We would welcome the vendor providing various mm options to showcase the cost and resolution difference.

9. Would a Live Watchfire demonstration help decide between the different resolutions?

Response: We welcome the opportunity to learn about different resolution options and their associated costs.
