About this file
This is an equipment specifications and operator experience requirements document for the Waubun WMA Tree Removal project in Mahnomen County near Waubun, Minnesota (Solicitation #2025-505). The document outlines the required equipment specifications for tree removal operations, including either a rubber tracked skid steer (minimum 100 HP, 35.0 GPM hydraulic flow), tracked crawler (minimum 135 HP), or rotary axe (minimum 180 HP) equipped with tracks or high flotation tires. The contractor must use mower attachments capable of handling various sizes of willow, dogwood, young aspen, and brush species, specifically recommending both heavy-duty rotary brush mowers and drum style mulching mowers for different diameter vegetation.
Bidders must provide detailed equipment specifications including make, model, year, horsepower ratings, and hydraulic flow capacity for both primary and secondary equipment. The document includes a requirement that operators must have a minimum of 250 hours of experience operating the specified equipment and mowing/mulching attachments. The form includes spaces for listing two operators and their respective experience hours, along with detailed equipment specifications for both primary and secondary equipment to be used on the project.

Equipment Specifications and Operator Experience Requirements
WAUBUN WMA TREE REMOVAL
Mahnomen County / Near Waubun Solicitation # 2025-505
Equipment Specifications:
Required equipment will consist of a rubber tracked skid steer (min. 100 gross engine HP, 35.0 gallon per minute, gpm, hydraulic flow to cutting head), or a tracked crawler (min. 135 gross engine horsepower) or a rotary axe (min. 180 gross engine horsepower) equipped with tracks or high flotation tires or a combination thereof.
Due to the variability of densities and size of stems of willow, dogwood, young aspen and other brush species on this site, the contractor must use a mower attachment(s) that is capable of effectively mowing/mulching a wide variety of differently sized material. We are recommending that a contractor using tracked skid steers utilize both heavy duty rotary brush mowers (i.e. Davco or equivalent) and drum style mulching mowers (i.e. Fecon or equivalent) for this project. The heavy-duty rotary mowers will likely work best on woody vegetation with basal stem diameters 2.0 inches and less whereas the drum style mulching mowers will likely work best on the larger woody vegetation stands with basal stem diameters of
2.0 inches and greater. The heavy-duty rotary mower or drum style mulcher must be equipped with blades or cutting teeth capable of effectively cutting/mulching all diameters of woody vegetation from the small flexible to the larger rigid material.
The bidder will provide with their bid the make, model, year, gross engine horsepower, and hydraulic flow (gpm) of the equipment they will use on this project along with the make and models of the heavy-duty rotary mower, the drum style mulcher or both that will be used on this project.
