The City of Urbana is seeking proposals from qualified vendors for a single-purpose narcotics canine, with preferred breeds being Labrador Retriever or German Shorthair, and specific requirements including a dog no older than two years, male or female. The RFP includes specific warranty provisions, requiring the vendor to replace the canine at no additional cost if genetic, hereditary, or health issues are identified within one year of purchase. The proposal must demonstrate the canine's health, sociability, and workability, with certification from a veterinarian. The training package covers housing costs for the canine handler, and includes up to 12 hours of monthly maintenance training after the initial course. Vendors must provide an estimated timeline for locating, screening, and pre-training the canine, with an option to exclude cannabis from the trained odors. The department also reserves the right to purchase additional maintenance training beyond the initial 12-month agreement at an extra cost.
