About this file

This is a Request for Proposals (RFx) issued by the California Department of Conservation for the 2016 Data Interpretation Project through the California Strong Motion Instrumentation Program (CSMIP) of the California Geological Survey. The project focuses on the analysis and application of CSMIP and other strong-motion data to improve understanding of strong ground shaking and structural response, with the goal of enhancing seismic code provisions, design practices, and post-earthquake response. The solicitation opened on February 24, 2016, at 1:00 PM PDT and closed on April 12, 2016, at 5:00 PM PDT.

The RFx specifies one line item for Data Interpretation and Analysis with a quantity of one lot. Unlike typical research grants, these projects are contracted with specific requirements and timetables for deliverables. The Strong Motion Instrumentation Advisory Committee (SMIAC), a committee of the California Seismic Safety Commission, serves in an advisory capacity for CSMIP. The solicitation does not specify pricing terms or funding amounts, though it notes that bids must be submitted in US dollars and alternative currencies are not accepted.

The goal of these projects is to further the understanding of strong ground shaking and the response of buildings and other structures, and to increase the utilization of strong motion data in improving seismic code provisions, and seismic design practices, and post-earthquake response. Projects funded as part of the CSMIP Data Interpretation Project are unlike many other grants in that CSMIP projects are contracted with requirements and timetables for products, as opposed to more flexible research grants.
