About this file
This is a requisition document issued by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife in cooperation with the Windham/Gorham Rod & Gun Club for the procurement of approximately 2,000 adult ring-necked pheasants to support the state's public hunting season. The pheasants must meet specific physical and health criteria, including full feathering with tail feathers averaging at least 8 inches in length, a minimum sex ratio of 50% males, and weight requirements of at least 2.5 pounds for males and 2.0 pounds for females. All birds must be strong flyers with intact or minimally clipped beaks. Delivery will be made to the Wells Transportation Facility/Amtrak Station near Exit 19 of the Maine Turnpike, with the first delivery of at least 600 birds required prior to October 1, followed by at least two additional stockings prior to November 1 with a minimum one-week interval between subsequent deliveries. Morning deliveries, preferably before 9:00 a.m., must be coordinated with Regional Wildlife Biologist Scott Lindsay.
Birds must originate from flocks certified by a veterinarian or appropriate state agricultural authority as having tested negative for pullorum, typhoid, and West Nile Virus, with no evidence of tuberculosis, infectious diseases, or unreasonable parasite loads for six months prior to delivery. Documentation of all medicines and vaccines administered must be provided before delivery, and birds from a single source are preferred. Transport crates must be new or properly disinfected. The provider is responsible for replacing any dead, injured, or missing birds at no additional cost prior to the final season release. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife reserves the right to inspect the provider's facility and reject any birds not meeting the specified criteria. Vendors must submit all questions through the designated Question and Answer link on the Solicitation Details View page.
