About this file

This is an advance notice and industry briefing announcement for a non-competitive event hosted by NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Sustainable Land Imaging (SLI) Commercialization Plan Industry Week will be held August 31 – September 4, 2026, at USGS Headquarters in Reston, Virginia. Registration and advance notice of interest to participate (NOIP) are required by July 21, 2026, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time via Eventbrite. The event is structured in two components: a Community Briefing on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 1:30 PM EDT (open to all registered participants with virtual attendance available) and by-invitation-only Industry One-on-One Deep-Dive Sessions from Tuesday, September 1 through Friday, September 4, 2026. NASA and USGS are inviting participation from Earth observation satellite operators and data providers capable of supplying Landsat-compatible multispectral, hyperspectral, and thermal imagery; data analytics and product generation firms with demonstrated capabilities in Earth observation product generation, aggregation, and distribution; and ground-based calibration and validation instrument manufacturers relevant to calibration and validation of satellite-derived surface reflectance and temperature products through autonomous spectrometers and/or thermal radiometers.

The initiative envisions a product-based commercialization approach where commercial providers supply Landsat-compatible data and contribute to higher-order science products including bathymetry, surface water, burned area, evapotranspiration, vegetation indices, land cover classification, snow and ice extent, and impervious surfaces. This announcement does not constitute a solicitation for proposals, RFI, or RFP, and no contract or award will result directly from participation. The government will not reimburse costs for participation, and proprietary information should be marked accordingly. All participation is subject to SEC. 526 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, which prohibits bilateral relationships with China. Points of contact are Nima Pahlevan, Program Scientist & Manager, Earth Science Division (nima.pahlevan@nasa.gov) and Daniel W. Opstal, Deputy Program Coordinator, National Land Imaging Program (dopstal@usgs.gov).

Sustainable Land Imaging (SLI) Commercialization Plan Industry Week

August 31 – September 4, 2026

USGS Headquarters, Reston, VA

SAM.GOV Notice ID Number: NNH26ZDA014L Advance Notice of Interest to Participate (NOIP) Required: July 21, 2026, 11:59 PM Eastern Time Issuing Agencies: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and U.S.

Geological Survey (USGS) Event Information, NOIP, and Registration Website: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sustainable-land-imaging-sli-commercialization-plan-industry-week-2026-tickets-1993922873991 Event Questions and Correspondence Email: hq-esd-sli-event@mail.nasa.gov

NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, Earth Science Division (ESD), and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) invite representatives from the Earth observation (EO) industry, data analytics firms, and ground-based calibration and validation (Cal/Val) instrument manufacturers to participate in the SLI Commercialization Project Industry Week. The first day in-person and virtual event will provide the community with a comprehensive overview of the government's product-based commercialization approach to underpin and complement government Landsat operations.

The NASA-USGS approach envisions a future where commercial providers supply Landsat-compatible data, contribute to the generation of higher-order science products (starting with Quick Win products: bathymetry, surface water, and burned area), and support automated in situ Cal/Val spectrometry and/or thermal radiometry. Other science products, such as evapotranspiration, vegetation indices, land cover classification, snow and ice extent, and impervious surfaces, will be added to the list of products in the next phase of the plan. A foundational principle of this strategy is open-data policy, data quality and integrity, data continuity, and market stewardship—using government purchasing power and technical expertise to help establish standards, reduce risk, and expand the overall market for Landsat-quality Earth observation data and products.

Industry Week is structured to facilitate both broad community engagement and focused dialogue:

• Community Briefing (Monday, August 31, 2026 | 1:30 PM EDT | Dallas Peck Auditorium): A half-day briefing open to all registered participants. NASA and USGS leadership will introduce the SLI commercialization strategy, the product-based approach, the processing/evaluation pipeline, and anticipated pathways for future industry engagement. Note: Virtual Participation will be available.

• Industry One-on-One Deep-Dive Sessions (Tuesday, Sept 1 – Friday, Sept 4, 2026 | TBD): Structured (by-invitation-only) sessions with registered companies to support deeper, company-specific conversations regarding technical capabilities, proposed architectures, technology gaps and needs, Cal/Val methodologies, and potential partnership models. The final location for one-on-one sessions will be communicated to invited participants prior to the start of Industry Week.

NASA and USGS encourage participation from all organizations, particularly a) Earth observation satellite operators and data providers capable of supplying Landsat-compatible multispectral, hyperspectral, and/or thermal imagery, b) Data analytics and product generation firms with demonstrated capabilities in EO product generation, aggregation, and distribution, and c) Ground-based Cal/Val instrument manufacturers relevant to calibration and validation of satellite-derived surface reflectance and temperature products through autonomous spectrometers and/or thermal radiometers.

Note: This announcement does not constitute a solicitation for proposals, Request for Information (RFI), or Request for Proposals (RFP). No contract or other award will result directly from participation in Industry Week. The Government will not reimburse any costs incurred in preparation for or participation in this event. It is not NASA's intent to disclose publicly participant’s proprietary information obtained in response to this event. Mark all appropriate documentation accordingly as "Proprietary or Confidential". NASA intends to comply with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and other laws and regulations.

All invitations and participation are subject to the restrictions placed on NASA by SEC. 526 of the ‘‘Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024’’ that prohibits bilateral relationships with China.
