Exhibit 01-01 — Introduction: Tactile Floor Plan Map
CE-01-01-100 Tactile Floor Plan Map
ADA guidelines call for a low relief tactile map for visitors who are blind;
this graphic hangs vertically on the wall, amidst a stylized map of Lowell.
See GL-01.01-100 for a more detailed graphic layout of this map.

Exhibit 01-03 — Introduction: Lowell Experiences Introduction
CE-01-03-100 Lowell Experiences Flipdoors
Interpretive text introduces nine flip doors, each with a specific Lowellian person or group on the front. This display introduces the recurring “Lowell Experience” exhibit element (with content presented elsewhere via touchscreen). Here, visitors discover what may be surprising tidbits about each person or group through a brief quip—an enticement to follow these stories further in the exhibit.

EP-01-03-999 Ambient Introductory Audio
Equipment/Accessibility Notes Ceiling speaker(s), plays on loop. Audio engages all visitors who can hear; visitors who are hearing- impaired connect with the themes of a busy, multilingual city through GL-01.02-100 and GL-01.04-100.
Original content to be created 240 seconds of streetscape noise from Downtown Lowell, to likely include car traffic (and loud music from passing cars), trolley noise, clanging mill bell, nondescript voices, and construction, as available.
Audio of simple, daily conversations in various languages (English with Nigerian accent, Spanish, Khmer, French, Armenian, each to be edited to 20-second clips fading in and out, as if the two speakers are passing by).

Exhibit 02-02 — Cultural Expressions: Dance
EP-02-02-999 Expressing Culture Through Dance
VISITOR EXPERIENCE GOAL: To connect visitors to the expression of movement to build understanding that traditional dance movements have meaning, and how they are preserved or blended when cultures intersect.
Equipment/Accessibility Notes Vertically-oriented 50" screen. Directional speaker to contain sound.
Videos will have no audio besides music—no narration. Accessibility for visitors who are blind or have limited vision is provided through audio description in the OnCell App. As visitors approach, a Bluetooth beacon triggers the audio description (AD) of the dance visuals featured in the program. Note that the audio description operates separately from the sound program. That is, if a visitor is watching the program and a second visitor triggers the audio description, this does not restart the program or sync up. As noted, open captioning is in Spanish and English.
Original Content to be Created Video of eight dances, each to be edited to 15-20 seconds in length.

Exhibit 02-04 — Cultural Expressions: Music
Custom Elements Report, Page 4
EP-02-04-999 Expressing Culture Through Music
VISITOR EXPERIENCE GOAL: Show commonalities and differences across cultures through a range of performances using the same core instrument types: strings, percussion, wind, and voice.
When a category is selected (string, percussion, wind, vocalization), the touch screen converts to a listing of that type of instrument. When an instrument is touched, a video of a band shows up with the music playing. The selected instrument will be denoted within the band.
Visitors can drop out the other sounds to hear that one instrument. If possible, a toggle switch controls each volume instrument level. Visitors can adjust the mix, increasing and decreasing physical sliders for instruments to isolate different tracks.
The instruments represented in the object case are highlighted on the board.
Equipment/Accessibility Notes Electronic Equipment: An ELO 3202L 32” touch panel monitor is powered by a Dell Optiplex 3070 computer. Sound is played through a Dakota Audio MA-4 panel speaker in the overhead canopy.
As visitors approach, a Bluetooth beacon triggers the audio description (AD), which describes the context of the interactive and the instrument categories. The 12 instruments receive a description, perhaps augmented by the musician(s). In addition to providing audio description, the OnCell app supports the same text and audio content present in the program, allowing users to navigate and access the content via their own device.
Original content to be created:
Twelve videos, each featuring musicians playing music from their culture. Each video and recording will need to have an isolated recording of the highlighted instrument. Park will identify musicians.

As visitors approach this stylized tree, directional and interpretive text encourage them to “activate” the structure. As they touch one of the metal “branches,” only the canopy connected to that single branch will light up (edge lighting). When all the metal branches are touched at the same time, not only will all the canopies light up, but three projectors in the ceiling are activated—projecting a moving light on the ground for a few seconds—in other words, when a community works together, an even more beautiful result occurs.

Accessibility:
The booth provides space and flexible furniture arrangements to accommodate small groups.
The audio description will guide visitors to this exhibit, and advise them that they may interact with the program via an accessible NavBar.
A NavBar (EE-06.03-956), provides a series of accessible buttons (not a “keyboard”) to give sight-impaired visitors the ability to navigate the interactive. Audio directions / confirmations will be emitted by the audio speaker (EE-06.03-953) tied to the monitor (EE-06.03-951).
Horizontally oriented touch screen (approximately 43") interface, with prompts and instructions appearing on the screen. Note that the graphics should follow the vocabulary developed in the exhibit. The program allows visitors to review their recording before posting it. This is a recording space only; visitors can access other user-submitted videos at the Experience Lowell stations (EP-02-07-999, EP-04-06-999, EP-05-07-999).
Original Content to be Created:
Depending on who develops the program, a mobile version may be purchased prior to the exhibit opening. This would allow the vendor to work with park staff to select recordings for the initial content of the Experience Stations. A Content Management System allows the park to review submissions via remote access and upload selected clips to the three “Experience” stations in the exhibit (EP-0207-999, EP -04-06-999, EP-05-07-999). Connectivity restrictions mean that segments cannot be uploaded online in realtime; the park will need to transfer files regularly via SD card or other hardware.
