ELECTRONIC PROGRAMS REPORT, PD2

NOTE: all equipment reflected in this document to be treated as specification or equal.

EP-01.03-999 AMBIENT INTRODUCTORY AUDIO

OVERVIEW: An urban, multilingual, multicultural blend of sounds sets the stage for the exhibit experience. In no particular order and without a specific narrative, we feature ambient noises of vibrant Lowell—street sounds, conversations in multiple languages, music from a variety of cultures. The length of the looping soundscape is long enough so that visitors who are pausing in this area do not realize that it is the same track.

TOTAL RUN TIME: 4 minute loop

DESCRIPTION OF PHYSICAL INTEGRATION AND ACCESSIBILITY: Ceiling speaker(s), plays on loop. Audio engages all visitors who can hear; visitors who are hearing-impaired connect with the themes of a busy, multilingual city through GL-01.02-100 and GL-01.04-100.

DESCRIPTION OF PLAYBACK EQUIPMENT: A Bose FreeSpace 3 speaker in the ceiling produces sound. The audio is stored and played back through a BrightSign HD224 digital media player.

EQUIPMENT LOCATION: AV rack room.

DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL SYSTEM: Audio plays on a constant loop and does not require input from visitors.

RESOURCE INFORMATION: Original content to be produced by media developer may include (but not limited to) streetscape noise from Downtown Lowell, to likely include car traffic (and loud music from passing cars), trolley noise, clanging mill bell, nondescript voices, and construction, as available. Audio of simple, daily conversations in various languages (English with Nigerian accent, Spanish, Khmer, French, Armenian, each to be edited to 20-second clips fading in and out, as if the two speakers are passing by).

EP-02.02-999 EXPRESSING CULTURE THROUGH DANCE

OVERVIEW: A continuous linear film loop highlights 8 different dances performed to music. Each clip will be 15-20 seconds in length for a total length of 2:20. The purpose of the film is to emphasize the diversity of dances in different cultures. Open captioning title text in English and Spanish will identify each dance.

TOTAL RUN TIME: 2 minutes and 20 seconds (~ 15-20 seconds per dance)

DESCRIPTION OF PHYSICAL INTEGRATION AND ACCESSIBILITY: Videos will have no audio besides music—no narration. Accessibility for visitors who are blind or have limited vision is provided through audio description in the OnCell App. As visitors approach, a Bluetooth beacon triggers the audio description (AD) of the dance visuals featured in the program. Note that the audio description operates separately from the sound program. That is, if a visitor is watching the program and a second visitor triggers the audio description, this does not restart the program or sync up. As noted, open captioning is in Spanish and English.

DESCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT: The video will play on a vertically-oriented NEC C501 50” monitor mounted on a Chief MSM1U monitor mount. A directional Bose Solo 5 speaker will contain the sound, which should remain localized and subdued, to the area. The video is stored and played back through a BrightSign HD224 digital media player. The video will play on a loop to draw visitors to the content group.

EQUIPMENT LOCATION: AV rack room.

DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL SYSTEM: Video plays on a constant loop and does not require input from visitors.

RESOURCE INFORMATION: Park will define the 8 dances to be featured. Park to be aware that, despite directional speaker and subdued sound, there could still be some sound bleed with the design and dance programs.

EP-02.04-999 EXPRESSING CULTURE THROUGH MUSIC

OVERVIEW: A touch screen interactive emphasizes the diversity of music from different cultures while highlighting cross-cultural commonalities in the instruments musicians use. Visitors will be prompted to select an instrument category (wind, percussion, string, vocalization) and then a specific instrument within that category. Once an instrument is selected, a video will show a band playing a song using the selected instrument. The selected instrument will be denoted in the band. Visitors will have the option to isolate the sound of the selected instrument or hear the instrument in harmony with the other instruments in the band. The 12 music samples should represent a variety of cultures and instruments. The instrument choices will connect to objects and stories in the exhibit.

TOTAL RUN TIME: Variable, single start-to-end length approx. 1 minute, 7 seconds.

DESCRIPTION OF PHYSICAL INTEGRATION AND ACCESSIBILITY: As visitors approach, a Bluetooth beacon triggers the audio description (AD), which describes the context of the interactive and the instrument categories. The 12 instruments receive a description, perhaps augmented by the musician(s). In addition to providing audio description, the OnCell app supports the same text and audio content present in the program, allowing users to navigate and access the content via their own device. All touch screen text will be available in English and Spanish.

DESCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT: An ELO 3202L 32” touch panel monitor is powered by a Dell Optiplex 3070 computer. Sound is played through a Dakota Audio MA-4 panel speaker in the overhead canopy.

EQUIPMENT LOCATION: AV rack room.

DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL SYSTEM: Visitors will navigate this interactive experience via touch screen using the on screen menus or via the OnCell app on their own device.

RESOURCE INFORMATION: Twelve videos, each featuring musicians playing music from their culture. Each video and recording will need to have an isolated recording of the highlighted instrument. Park will identify musicians.
