FDC HONOLULU – REPAIR SPALLING
PROJECT 6B9D QUESTIONS
SOLICITATION 15BH0N18B00000001
Submitted by Color Dynamics, Inc.
1. Detail 1/A0.1 - Keynote #3 Sandblast steel to remove corrosion and Detail 4/A0 .1 - General Repair Note#3: Mechanically clean the exposed reinforcement to remove corrosion (SSP 3 min). Does this indicate that the means and methods to clean the steel reinforcement will be left to the contractor to decide to either mechanically clean or sand blast clean the rebar for the spall repair.
Please advise.
CLARIFICATION: Yes, means and methods are up to the contractor.
2. Detail 1/A0.1 - Spall Repair Detail - Indicates that the rebar is located at least 1 to 2 inches below the surface. However, during our site visit, there was found to have a lot of the spall repair to have the rebar only %" below the surface or even shallower. Normally you would like to have at least 2" of concrete coverage over steel reinforcement to prevent them from corrosion.
Please provide a detail on how to handle this situation with the rebar near the surface.
CLARIFICATION: Ideally we would want to provide at least 2” of cover. However since these are localized repairs the only way to do so would result in a bulge in the wall. The repair shall be as detailed, with the sacrificial anode, corrosion inhibitor, polymer modified mortar and 3-coat surface sealer.
3. Spec Sec 098800 Part 2.1A-2 Acrylic Base Coat and Detail 4/A0.1 General Note #6: follow with two coats of Sikagard 670W. Please clarify the coating system to be applied. The Spec calls for a prime, acrylic base coat and the Acrylic finish coat (670W), whereas the plans call for a prime and two coats of the 670W finish coat.
CLARIFICATION: Comply with the requirements in the specifications (i.e. prime, base coat and finish coat).
Submitted by: Elite Pacific Construction, Inc.
1. Section 098800 Protective Coatings for Exterior Concrete and CMU Finish specifies Sikagard 670W Protective Acrylic Finish Coating as the basis of design.
Sikagard 670W is a colored coating. Please clarify if the intent is to provide a colored coating atop the existing split face CMU as well, or if the CMU surfaces should receive a clear coating.
CLARIFICATION: The intent is to match existing color on all surfaces. Therefore existing clear surfaces shall receive a clear coating with similar protective properties to the system specified.
2. Please clarify where the Offeror shall provide unit price cost for Unit Price No. 1 and Unit Price No. 2 as listed in Section 012200. Will a specific form be required?
CLARIFICATION: This is a sealed bid, thus specific pricing will not be required during the bidding process.
3. Sheet T1.0, Scope of Work Note 5 indicates to provide Unit Prices for sacking honeycomb areas, crack and spall repair. Section 012200 lists unit prices for crack and spall repair only. Please clarify intent.
CHANGE: MODIFICATION 00002 WILL BE ISSUED. See addition to section 01 22 00 with added paragraph 3.1.C for honeycomb repair.
4. Please advise if facsimile or e-mail proposals will be accepted by the bid due date and time, with originally signed documents to follow within 5 business days.
CLARIFICATION: No.
5. There are many attachments to the existing exterior surfaces (i.e., lighting, signage, fire alarm devices, grounding wire, etc.). Please confirm that those items may remain as installed at that coating should be applied as tight to existing attachments as possible, without removal and reinstallation.
CLARIFICATION: Confirmed. Mask off all fixtures as required to protect from coating. Remove masking at completion.
6. Please clarify intent where spalls may require the removal of existing attachments (i.e., lighting, grounding wire). Will FBOP be able to remove and reinstall those items to facilitate the concrete repairs?
CLARIFICATION: Contractor is responsible for all necessary removals. Contractor to reinstall to match existing.
7. Please provide security requirements for work on site such as check in procedures, tool management, etc.
CLARIFICATION: Specific security requirements will be addressed with the prime contractor upon award at the Pre-Construction Meeting.
