QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

FCI Ray Brook

15B21219B00000001 - PROJECT 2D1M

SUBMITTED BY CCM CONSTRUCTION SERVICES:

1. In the scope of work 1.3 Existing conditions a Bituminous “pitch” roof is called out under the LG Board, membrane & Pink Board. What is the composition & thickness of the components of this roof system and its method of attachment?

A BUR type roof is not typically installed directly over a steel deck, so there may be an insulation component. And there are no screws protruding under the deck which means that the insulation is not mechanically attached. We need to know this information to properly quantify the amount of material to be removed. This will affect removal labor & the amount of dumpsters required.

Answer: Clarification-The first roof is a built up roof system with a gravel surface and 2” rigid insulation over the steel decking.

2. In section 1.3 Existing conditions, R-2/R-5 Unicor and Recycling, in regards to Asbestos abatement. It is stated that the Unicor Roof NW Fan Flashing contains the Non-friable Asbestos. It goes on to say we are responsible for the abatement of all items that are found to contain Asbestos. How we to know what are contains Asbestos? Are we responsible to test everything, or are we to assume all of the 14 fans have

Asbestos Flashing, or are we to assume that all of the items mentioned including the skylights to be removed have Asbestos Flashing?

Answer: Clarification- Testing was conducted in 1991 for the asbestos and as stated in the document only one fan unit in the northwest corner contained asbestos. The contractor is responsible for the removal of the fan flashing with the proper disposal accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

3. In that same section we are required to infill the decking at the skylight infills with like material. What is the

Type & gauge of the decking we are to use?

Answer: Clarification - Standard galvanized decking equal to the existing 18 to 22 gauge.

4. In the Scope of work, 1.6 Materials A – Material Handling & Storage #2 States “Storage of Volatile

Materials is to be in a dry, well ventilated space not on the grounds of FCI Ray Brook”. Is it the intent of this statement that we will be required to rent space off-site to store our adhesives, primers, and caulks and bring them to the site daily and return anything not used during the day to the remote storage area? If this is true will someone from your office have to inspect such remote storage area and approve it? Will we be able to bill for these materials as they won’t be on site?

Answer: Clarification - The materials are not to be stored inside our secured perimeter. A well ventilated storage unit can be utilized at the designated storage area with the rest of the materials outside the secured perimeter.

5. In the same scope section under #2 It says that we are responsible for Port-a-Johns, and they may be stored on site. Does this mean outside of the fence? If so may they be brought in and placed either on the roof or adjacent to the ladder access and removed at days’ end to outside the fence?

Answer: Clarification - Porta-a-John will be allowed to stay inside providing they are able to be locked with a padlock that we will provide.

6. In the Scope of Work, 1.8 Insulation, underlayment board and Fasteners: Insulation is called out as 2 layers of 2” which has a total R value of 22.8. Even adding in the .56 R value of the Dens Deck substrate board, the total of 23.36 R value is below the R 30 required by code. Is your agency exempt from the code? If not please specify the thicknesses, you wish us to use to meet code.

Change – See Amendment 00001

7. In section 1.8 under adhesives, Cover Board is mentioned in this section. No cover board is specified in the insulation portion of this section. Is a cover board being used on this project?

Answer: Section 1-8 page 10

8. In seam tape is called out as required in 3 different places. In seam tape is not a component of a TPO roof

System, as it has heat welded seams. Please confirm this is not a requirement.

Answer: Clarification - Seam tape is not a requirement of the TPO roof system.

9. In scope of Work 1.9 Misc. Materials Finish Flashing, we are told to weld the membrane to the finished trim piece and not the anchor piece. This will necessitate the use of TPO Coated Metal as the outside finish piece.

This Type of coated metal by its nature is not shiny and will not match the rest of the metal, which appears to be Kynar coated gloss finished metal. Generally, we would form the anchor piece of the TPO metal in the shape of a gravel stop, weld to it and snap the finish fase in piece over it for looks.

Answer: Clarification - TPO metal formed in the shape of the gravel stop with the TPO welded to it and the covered piece snapped on.
