About this file
This document contains questions and answers related to solicitation 15A00023R00000073 for the installation of fume hoods and fans upgrades. The solicitation is seeking to replace eight fume hoods and two canopy hood motors for laboratory spaces within the Department of Justice Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives. According to the questions and answers, the hoods currently installed do not properly ventilate smells and chemicals, and some are nonfunctional. The replacement project is for new equipment, as building management is no longer responsible for maintaining the existing hoods. No incumbent contractor was previously used for hood replacements.

15A00023R00000073 Q&A #1
1. Is this a brand-new contract OR if there is (was) an incumbent performing these services?
a. This is a brand-new contract/requirement.
2. If not brand new, could you please provide the current / previous contract number?
a. There are two variety of hoods, Visionaire and Lab Fabricators. They were originally installed with the building and each time one went down they were replaced by the building manager, not ATF. They are also pieced together with Siemens switches and motors that has been replace by ATF over the last couple years. The building manager decided they were no longer responsible for maintaining/replacing the hoods. Of the 8 hoods to be replaced, 2 of them don’t work and the 2 canopy hood motors don’t work. All the hoods currently in the space don’t pull the proper flow rate and are essentially dumping all the smells (and chemicals) into the lab spaces.
