About this file

This document is a U.S. Coast Guard Computerized Maintenance System (MPC) procedure for testing and maintaining the FM-200 Fire Protection System installed on Coast Guard vessels (Hulls 1-32). The detailed maintenance procedure covers comprehensive testing of the fire suppression system, including critical safety steps such as disconnecting control heads, checking nitrogen cylinders, testing remote pull boxes, and verifying system functionality. Key safety precautions are emphasized throughout, with multiple warnings about potential hazards like FM-200 gas concentration risks and the potential for automatic shutdown of main engines and generators during system testing.

The maintenance procedure requires original equipment manufacturer (OEM) authorized fire extinguishing system inspectors to perform the work, with ship's force personnel observing. Specific tools and equipment are required, including an M7 Responder SCBA Assembly, weighing scale, stopwatch, and various expendable items like hose assemblies and break glass components. The procedure involves multiple technical steps such as disconnecting cylinder control heads, checking cable pull requirements, inspecting hoses, testing lever-operated control heads at various locations, and recertifying the system. The document includes detailed technical diagrams illustrating components like FM-200 cylinders, remote pull boxes, and control head mechanisms.
