About this file

This is a Questions & Answers document for DMV Contract 15-495 regarding In-Person Interpreter Services on an "as-needed" basis for Driver Safety Branch Area 3 locations in California. The contract will be awarded to a single vendor to provide in-person interpretation services at Driver Safety offices, with requirements that interpreters must physically appear at the requested locations. Virtual interpretation services are not permitted, and meetings may be required at DMV Headquarters in Sacramento. The contract specifies that services must be provided within California only, with no allowance for out-of-state or international service provision.

The current incumbent vendor is Excel Interpreting, LLC, providing services at a rate of $57.00 per hour paid in arrears. Historical usage data for calendar year 2015 is referenced but not included in the document. The primary challenge noted with the current contract has been vendors' occasional inability to provide interpreters. All interpreters must be California court Certified or Registered. The specific languages required are listed in Exhibit G (not included in this document). Proposals must be submitted physically rather than via email, and only U.S.-based companies are eligible to bid.
