About this file

This document is a comprehensive technical file for the Paradox Valley Injection Well No. 1 in Montrose County, Colorado, operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation as part of the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Project. The file contains well schematics, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), mechanical integrity reports, and brine sampling analysis.

The well is designed as a deep injection system extending to approximately 15,900 feet below ground level, utilizing multiple casing strings and specialized Incoloy C-276 tubing with mandrel hanger configuration. The well includes perforations across six formation intervals: Upper, Middle, and Lower Leadville (14,080-14,504 feet), Ouray/McCracken (14,380-14,719 feet), Ignacio (15,376-15,386 feet), and Precambrian (15,489-15,827 feet) formations. Surface facilities incorporate four 400-horsepower triplex injection pumps (P-302A through P-302D), well annulus monitoring system (WAMS) with primary and secondary isolation valves, pressure relief systems, and comprehensive instrumentation including pressure indicators, flow meters, and alarm systems with automated shutdown logic. The 2026 mechanical integrity report documents system performance with operational pressures ranging from approximately 111 to 5,433 PSI. Brine sampling analysis dated December 2024 identifies the injected fluid composition with total dissolved solids of 259,000 mg/L, chloride concentration of 149,000 mg/L, and notable concentrations of sodium (87,000 mg/L), sulfate (5,670 mg/L), and dissolved metals including calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
