About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for solicitation 140R4026Q0016 issued by the Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation for a 60-ton transport trailer. The document addresses two key inquiries from potential offerors regarding equipment specifications and design requirements.

In response to the first question, the government clarified that while a Kenworth truck is illustrated in the work scope, this reference is for illustrative purposes only and does not restrict offerors from proposing equivalent equipment that meets the solicitation specifications. Regarding the second question about the extendable deck requirement, the government confirmed that the trailer must feature a main deck of 20 feet with the ability to extend an additional 10 feet for a maximum length of 30 feet. This adjustable extension capability is mandatory to accommodate the transportation of heavy machinery and construction equipment, including 980 loaders, D7 dozers, 336 tracked excavators, and wheeled articulated rock trucks. The trailer must be designed to safely support these loads while maintaining stability and compliance with height restrictions. The specifications also require adjustable outriggers and wells for booms and buckets to provide additional support and clearance. The government explicitly stated that quotes must be based on the specifications as written, with the extendable deck being a mandatory feature rather than optional.

140R4026Q0016 – MRG SFD 60-Ton Transport Trailer

Amendment 0002 - Questions and Answers

1. Are you able to advise the truck brand that is illustrated in your work scope?

Government Response - The truck brand illustrated in the work scope is Kenworth.

Please note that the reference to Kenworth is for illustrative purposes only and does not restrict offerors from proposing equivalent equipment that meets the specifications outlined in the solicitation.

2. Can you please advise what equipment this trailer will be moving that would require the extendable deck?

Government Response – The requirement is based on the operational needs outlined in the solicitation’s specifications. As stated in Attachment 1 of the solicitation under the “Foreword” section, the Bureau of Reclamation requires a 60‑ton transport trailer capable of supporting the transportation of heavy machinery, construction equipment, and oversized loads. The main deck must be 20 feet with the ability to extend an additional 10 feet, allowing a maximum deck length of 30 feet. The adjustable extension is essential because the trailer must safely accommodate varying equipment lengths while maintaining load stability and compliance with height restrictions.

The trailer must also be designed to allow heavy equipment—such as 980 loaders, D7 dozers, 336 tracked excavators, and wheeled articulated rock trucks—to safely traverse the extended section or be transported while the deck is extended. Adjustable outriggers and wells for booms and buckets are required for additional support and clearance.

For these reasons, the extendable deck is a mandatory feature, and quotes should be based on the specifications as written.
