Specifications Coded Wire Tags for the Central Valley Project

1.0 Background

Reclamation funds Coleman and Nimbus hatcheries to mitigate habitat loss from dams.

Under CVPIA, the Department of the Interior must double Central Valley anadromous fish production. This contract provides coded wire tags for fall-run Chinook at both hatcheries and late-fall Chinook at Coleman, which serve as surrogates for spring-run Chinook. Tagging supports estimates of hatchery contributions and helps trigger pumping restrictions when surrogate fish are detected.
