SUMMARY OF WORK
PART 1 – GENERAL
1.1 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS
Project Location: This project is located within Mount Rainier National Park in Longmire. There are two work sites in this area.
A. The Work consists of the following: This project is to upgrade deteriorated components of the wastewater collection system at two locations:
(1) Remove and Replace LMHH1
Cut and remove asphalt around the perimeter on manhole LMHI1, in the asphalted parking lot of the
National Park Inn (NPI), to allow for excavation and removal of all manhole components. Remove manhole LMHI1, preserve associated piping except ductile iron pipe at 2 o’clock (see manhole report
LMHH1); cut off pipe at 2 o’clock, cap and abandon. Install new precast manhole base and barrel, cored and channeled to retain all functions of remaining three inlet pipes and one outflow pipe. Seal all penetrations, install gaskets and manhole cone, ring and cover per specifications. Backfill, compact, test compaction, and replace asphalt that was removed in this operation to leave new asphalt and manhole lid flush with the existing roadway surface.
Work which disables any function of the manhole at this site will be undertaken on a weekend after Labor
Day, during which time the Maintenance area, all the buildings of which drain to LMHI1, will have all water supplies shut off. If cut-over to new manhole cannot be completed on the weekend, contractor will supply and install pumps and hoses and all supplies required to bypass LMHH1 and maintain normal sewer flows from the maintenance area until the installation is completed.
(2) Remove, Replace and Relocate LMHF1 and Reroute its Outflow
The work at this site, in the residential area, will remove a defective manhole from service, extend the two pipes from which flow comes into it and terminate them at a new manhole location. A new outflow pipe will be installed from this new manhole to an existing manhole. Extending approximately twenty-five feet from the existing inlet pipes of LMHF1, cut asphalt, remove and excavate from the existing LMHF1 site to create route for pipes into asphalted road at no less than 1% minimum slope. Cut and remove asphalt and excavate road for installation of a new manhole. Install new precast manhole base and barrel, cored and channeled to transfer the inlet flows of the old manhole to the new installation. Also core and channel barrel of new LMHF1 to route a new 6” SDR35 PVC outfall pipe under the asphalted roadway to
LMHE1. Excavate road to install pipe at no less than 1% minimum slope from LMHF1 to LMHE1; the distance is approximately seventy (70) feet, to be field verified. Cutoff abandoned 6” PVC inlet pipe at 3 o’clock in LMHE1, cap and abandon. Utilize created void in LMHE1 wall to install pipe from LMHF1, grout all connections inside and outside manholes. Install bedding, compact, test compaction and replace asphalt to leave all manhole lids and new asphalt flush with the existing roadway surface.
Twenty-four hour notice must be given to the COR prior to work which disables any section of the collection system. After new manhole and outflow piping from it are installed and the trench between the new and old manhole is dug, excavate to remove manhole LMHF1, at the base of residence L127 retaining wall. Preserve associated 4” vitreous clay (VCP) inlet pipes and install a 6” wye with clean-out on each of them with a Fernco adapter (or equal); extend 6” SDR35 PVC sewer pipe from both cleanouts at 1.0% minimum slope, per specification, to the new manhole LMHF1 in the asphalted road. Cut and cap now abandoned outflow line at old LMHF1. Bury old manhole site and abandoned line to specification. Install bedding, compact, test compaction and replace asphalt to leave all manhole lids and new asphalt flush with the existing roadway surface.
Test holes exposed bedrock at 2 feet depth in the proximity of the proposed location for the new
LMHF1 manhole, a review of the location would presume bedrock at this depth for most of the route of excavation.
All work of this contract will comply with the specifications of this document.
