About this file

This document is a plant and tree species list for the INDU Pinhook Bog Revegetation project under Solicitation 140P6426Q0093.

The document provides two comprehensive tables listing approved plant species for revegetation efforts. Table 1 contains 28 plant species organized by scientific name, common name, and growth form (forbs, grasses, sedges, shrubs, and vines). Each species is designated as either approved or not approved for seeding in borrow areas and excavation areas. Species approved for seeding in borrow areas include Common Milkweed, Hairy Wood Mint, Burreed sedge, Bottlebrush Grass, Virginia wildrye, Sweet Joe-Pye Weed, and various goldenrods and asters. Species restricted from borrow areas but approved for excavation areas include shrubs such as Common huckleberry, lowbush blueberry, Gray Dogwood, and Spice Bush. Table 2 lists eight tree species, all classified as trees, with none approved for seeding in borrow areas but all approved for excavation areas. These include American Beech, Black Cherry, Black Walnut, Cottonwood, Red Oak, Sugar Maple, Tuliptree, and White oak.

The document also specifies performance standards and acceptance criteria for a 1.0-acre forested riparian area, establishing plant quantities based on spacing requirements: 436 trees at 10-foot on-center spacing, 1,306 shrubs at 5-foot on-center spacing, and 9,148 herbaceous groundcovers at 2-foot on-center spacing, for a total of approximately 10,890 plants per acre.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS / ACCEPTANCE - (Higher density of Shrubs)

Plant quantities for a 1.0 acre forested riparian area: 1.0 acre x 43,560 ft2/acre = 43,560 ft2 with trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants:

Trees: 10 ft o.c. (average spacing) 43,560 ÷ 100 ft2 = 436 trees Shrubs: 5 ft o.c. (average spacing) 43,560 ÷ 25 ft2 = 1742 shrubs – 436 (trees) = 1306 shrubs Herbaceous/groundcovers: 2 ft o.c. (average spacing) 43,560 ÷ 4 ft2 = 10,890 – 436 (trees) – 1306 (shrubs) = 9,148 herbaceous/groundcovers
